“Perfection - what more is there to say.”
Reviewed 1 July 2014 for a stay in June 2014

When we arrived we were given a wonderful welcome by Tansy, were shown around the cottage and then invited to join her for a cup of tea which was most welcome after travelling for 5 hours. Tansy has excellent knowledge of both the immediate and surrounding areas and she gave us lots of information about places of interest to visit (all accompanied by a map which was really helpful as we hadn't been to that part of Normandy before). We met Mike later in the day and he was as friendly and helpful as Tansy had been. Throughout the week they both made themselves available for any queries we had and were always happy to have a chat which was really nice.

Everything about the property is excellent and the cottage was absolutely wonderful. It really was the best place that we have ever rented, we just wish that we could have stayed longer than the 8 days we booked. Everything you could possibly need is there - Tansy and Mike have done a fantastic job of making sure you are comfortable and have your own space where you can relax in private (if that is what you want to do). The gardens are beautiful and in the evening you can just sit outside, with a nice glass of wine and not be disturbed by any outside noise (except for the church bell - but to be honest that didn't bother us at any time). The grounds are totally secure and you are given a key fob to open the electronic gates so you don't have to wait to get in or out of the property - it was so nice not to have to lock the cottage or your car once inside the property. The village is quiet, spotlessly clean and has a wonderful chateau where they breed stallions - well worth a walk to take a look at the horses. You could walk for miles quite safely.

To the rear of the property there are fields where Mike and Tansy keep their animals and it was lovely to be able to feed them and watch the 2 goats playing with each other. They also have dogs: Madge, Grace, Mr Willerby and Rudy. All gave us a truly brilliant welcome and were so friendly - have to say I miss them all especially Madge who became our 'welcome home companion' each time we returned after a day out and Mr Willerby who we learnt could 'sing' and has his own agent!

Overall, if you are looking for a place to stay where you can unwind from the stresses of everyday life, you couldn't go to a better place. It is close enough to all the places you want to visit (Bayeux, Normandy landing beaches, Mont St Michel etc) but far enough away to get peace and quiet when you want it. Absolutely brilliant and we will be going back!

“Lovely Normandy Retreat”
Reviewed 31 May 2014 for a stay in May 2014

Just home from a 5 night stay at Ferme de l'Eglise, Houesville, Normandy and really enjoyed our stay. Our hosts, Tansy and Mike, couldn't have been more welcoming and made our vacation one we will remember, right down to the basket of fresh eggs from her chickens on our arrival! We were accommodated in a modern, self-contained loft apartment on the property and enjoyed the peace and quiet of a village location, but with all the sites we wanted to see close by. The apartment was well equipped and we were even able to do laundry! Tansy provided us with excellent tips on what to see in the area and we were glad we followed her leads. Omaha Beach, Saint Mere Eglise, and Carentan are just minutes away and we spent each day exploring the Normandy countryside and coast line. The property was secure and we were able to come and go as we pleased. I highly recommend this "gite" as a home base in Normandy for a memorable vacation.

“Exceeded Expectations!”
Reviewed 13 May 2014 for a stay in April 2014

We had a wonderful time. The loft is just as shown in the pictures. Very spacious and clean. Kitchen was well stalked with everything that was needed. The bathroom was large and the bed very comfortable. The location was near everything we wanted to see. The views, the farm animals, the church bells...and especially Mike and Tansy, were the icing on the cake! Should have stayed longer. If you are going to this area you MUST stay here.

Make sure you see all the beaches and all the cemeteries. Tansy will help you plan your days. She saved us a ton of frustration by giving us hints for seeing Mont St. Michel. We found that the Canadian war cemetery made us very emotional. Very beautifully kept. Museums were very informative.

Thanks Mike and Tansy for everything!

Thank you for taking the time to praise us...always makes us feel good that we've helped make someone's stay with us enjoyable...that's why we're doing this!
Watch out for us on the TV over 70th anniversary...I've just secured accommodation locally for Fox News - hopefully we'll make prime time TV???!!!!
You left just as the major build up kicked in, but you saw how much work the villages & towns are putting in to make this 70th D Day anniversary special, this area is unique & we're so glad you got to see and experience the emotion.

“fab relaxing break”
Reviewed 3 November 2013 for a stay in October 2013

Just returned from a lovely week in the apartment at Ferme de L,Eligse. The apartment was perfect. We were able to just chill out which we both really needed to do. We were greeted by Tansy and Mike and were advised of the all the lovely places to visit, based on what we said we wanted to do.
We met the lovely kittens Tansy had rescued from the road side and offered to baby sit the two that were well. Tansy nursed back to health the poorly one. I hope Tiny and Growler are doing well and I know Tansy will look after them if she can not re home them.
The apartment is exactly as described on the website. It is a tranquil place but near enough to visit all the sights Normandy has to offer. We had a lovely meal booked by Tansy at the John Steele in St Mere Eligse on our first night. We,mainly ate in the day and came back and chilled in front of the lovely log fire in the evening.
Stavros the donkey appreciated a couple of carrots every morning and Daisy the pig was happy to accept any odd bits of bread we had left.
The eggs lay the farms hens were gorgeous for breakfast. do not hesitate book!!!!

“Paradise in Normandy”

Our stay at the Tansy and Mike's barn loft apartment was the highlight of our 10-day trip to France!

- Location: perfect for visiting major sites in Normandy including the landing beaches, Mt St Michel and Bayeux; property on a quiet rural farm setting away from everyting yet close enough for grocery shopping and gas

- Hosts: Tansy and Mike were warm and very helpful hosts. Don't worry if you haven't done much trip planning. Tansy makes excellent suggestion for your itinerary.

- Property: We stayed in the Barn Loft apt. It's well-kept and very clean. We appreciated the space, nice decor and warmth of the apt. As mentioned in the description, wi-fi may not be accessable indoors. We didn't really mind that as it's nice to be "offline" on vacation!

- Animals: The dogs were friendly and fun to play with. Wish I had more time getting to know the other animals on the property. It's lovely watching the sheep graze next door and waking up to the church bells. It's an unique and great experience living on a farm for us city people.

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and thought it was way too short (3 nights). There appears to be so much we haven't seen nor done in Normandy. I can't wait to return for an in-depth visit next time. We'd certainly return to Ferme de l'Eglise!

“"Heaven's Gate"”
Reviewed 19 June 2013 for a stay in May 2013

I just returned from an 8 night stay on a 3 acre farm that was a little corner piece of heaven....Ferme de I'Eglise. My travel partner was my 90 year old father who is an American Veteran of World War II. This return trip has been a dream of his and mine for almost 60 years since his service. The location of this property could not have been better in proximity to the sites of World War II history. We traveled such short routes to the D-Day Museum, Sainte-Mere-Eglise, Memorial Services at the Normandy American Cemetery overlooking Omaha Beach, and an emotional, (after nearly 70 years) visit to Utah Beach where my father landed on June 8th, 1944. We arrived at the Carentan train station, greeted by Mike and Tansy Forster (property owners). This was a perfect location to rent a car with only a short drive to the property. I was grateful for their help and warm welcome, and I soon learned that this was just a small glimpse of the sincere kindness and passionate knowledge of this unique couple. We stayed in the "Barn Loft" apartment that was way beyond my expectations. There was everything we needed to be comfortable and cozy. All modern amenities, but still surrounded you with old time furniture and authentic decorations. I couldn't have been more comfortable in my four poster comfy bed with top quality linens, towels and all the accessories we needed. I was pleased with such professional cleanliness of the apartment . The " walk in" showers were a pleasant discovery, as for convenience and safety of my 90 year old father. Stores close by made it easy to purchase groceries and cook in the kitchen. The calm and peacefulness was so refreshing. The farm animals were a pleasure to be around and I looked forward to the walk down the path to share the nights leftovers with Tansy's pigs and chickens. Soon after our arrival we were made to feel so comfortable and as if we were home. We were surrounded by a breathtaking setting and the fact that it was some 400 years old just added to it's appeal. Mike and Tansy have such an unbelievable knowledge of the area and history, and with such a passion to share it....that was certainly an added bonus for such a beautiful property. They have information and knowledge that you will not find on maps, tour buses or brochures. The directions to their property that lead to the large green iron gates were clear, simple and exact, but what I found behind those gates was a property, setting and new friends that I never expected. A little piece of heaven! My trip with my dad was more than I could have ever hoped it would be. Both of you and Ferme de I'Eglise made that possible. Thank you.

It was a complete honour & privilege to have your father here and for us to take him round the area, it was a fabulous experience for us as well, to hear 1st hand his memories and recollections from the huge events here in 1944 it truly gave us a real insight into what some the young men 69 years ago went through. For us it really underlined why we love it so much round here, to see the local people wanting to thank your father, the directors of the museums welcoming him, the staff at The American Cemetery so helpful, all the local Mayors as well looking to mark his 2nd visit...we are only a small part of what you father gave.

“Fantastic place to stay”
Reviewed 20 July 2012 for a stay in April 2012

Ferme de l’eglise is a great place to stay. We stayed in the barn which was modern, very well equipped and very comfortable. The setting is charming. The chiming of the bells of the nearby church, only add to the ambience (not at all disturbing). The farm is well placed to visit the beaches of D-Day landing beaches (there is a great self-directed tour), Bayeux, and Saint Mont Michel. We also enjoyed just driving around the area and visiting the various villages. Supermarkets are within easy reach. We spent 6 days here and would have happily stayed longer.
The owners, Tansy and Mike are friendly, accommodating and very knowledgeable about the area. They afford you privacy but are always available for advice and friendly chats.. I was unfortunately ill when we arrived in Normandy and they were very helpful and caring, even organising a doctor’s appointment for me. We would happily stay there again and indeed hope to one day.
