“Very nice indeed!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 February 2014

This January 2014 we were just passing by Ste. Mere Eglise and it was hard to find a decent place in the area. We called this hotel cold and the propietors, Frances and Tonnis, just returned from a trip. We were told that the rooms were ready but helas the boiler was not ready for hot water. So we said we would look further but we might call back. Mrs. Frances was very personable and that made us just go and go to sleep without the hot water.
When arrived, Mr. Tonnis came out before we even were out of the car and pleasantly welcomed us. (Mrs. would have cooked for us if she had made her errands). We were sent to Carentan to find a decent place to have diner.
It was the night we slept the best. Very nice appointed bathroom. Plenty of hot water!!! ;-)
Breakfast was very good. Very hospitable. I would use these premises again without reserve.
Finally a place with open WIFI!

We stayed over 2 nights in this charming Manoir.
Nice decoration, quiet place, we felt being on vacation, but...

But we did not like the host. We almost felt like being in an hotel, where business is business.
Worse, you are told the time for breakfast : 8h30. That's it ! Finish your dream, This is not vacation anymore... :'(
You are told the rules, like having your parents aside. Naa, I don't like it.

We will not go back, and advise to pass away...it's not worth the monayy!

Tonnis M, Owner at Manoir Les Quatre Etoiles, responded to this review, 13 November 2013
Comment of Francis and Tonnis Muntinga, owners of Manoir Les Quatre Etoiles, on the review 'Very nice place but.....' Rd Paris, France, 4th novemnber 2013.
When asked if they agreed with breakfasttime at 08.30 hrs, the couple replied: 'Please later, we are very tired'. I said: 'All right, we'll see'.
We gave lots of information about the landingbeaches, the musea, etc.
Next morning madame Magalon (Rd Paris) entered the breakfastroom at 10.45 AM, breakfast was still waiting for them! Monsieur took a coffee at our coffee-corner at the back of the house and went outside. When asked he replied he did not want breakfast.
I proposed to madame breakfasttime on sunday at 09.00 AM. She agreed.
Sundaymorning madame came dpwn at 10.15 AM, monsieur stayed in the coffe-corner.
The guests gave no explanation for their attitude, no excuse: we ket the breakfasttable ready to use for them both mornings.
These guests had a total different expectation of their stay with us. We were just negligible and difficult. They did not enjoy a normal communication with us, their hosts.
We however prefer that in our house! It is one of the basic things in a bed&breakfast.

This is a warm and charming 18th century house reflecting the personality of the owners, Tonnis and Francis. They make you feel right at home and it is a lovely home. Our room was spacious with a large bathroom, all meticulously clean. The included European breakfast included perhaps the best bread and croissants I have ever eaten thanks to Tonnis who leaves each morning at 6:30 am to go to the bakery in Ste. Mere Eglise. A must not miss is dinner at Les Quatre Etoiles. Our two meals were outstanding. Francis is a magician who prepares the best, freshest, tastiest meals in an elegant setting.

Tonnis and Francis were exceptional hosts, let us know the "must see's" in Normandy and made sure we were perfectly comfortable and at home in their lovely manoir. Our room was spacious and comfortable and the property and grounds were beautiful. We ate out the first night in St. Mere Eglise, which was very good, but after sampling breakfast the next morning and meeting the other guests decided to have Francis cook for us all that evening. Perfect choice! Dinner was excellent, and after an emotional day of visiting war memorials, being able to share our experiences with Francis and Tonnis and our fellow travelers was just what we needed. Definitely recommend Les Quatre Etoiles to visitors to Normandy.

We stayed here in July for 2 nights to visit the Normandy area. The property itself was quite special, spotlessly clean and breakfast was a highlight. Our host's recommendations of places to visit were perfect. We visited the 360 cinema at Arromanches, the moving American Cemetery and Utah Beach Museum in a day. Dinner in St Mere Eglise was also a great recommendation, though we were less taken with the local creperie having experienced far better that week. All in all, we would fully recommend Tonnis and Francis's hospitality and beautiful home.

We stayed here in early September and were truly impressed with their hospitality and their attention to every detail. We arrived after a long flight and train/car trip and it was like the perfect oasis - Tonnis and Francis made sure we were comfortable in the absolutely delightful property. Breakfast was wonderful and the location right outside of St. Mere Eglise is perfect - a wonderful little historic town that offers so much. We could only stay 2 nights with them, but wish we could have lingered a bit longer - it was a wonderful start to a great trip! Thanks to them for doing everything just right.

We stayed for 2 nights whilst visiting the D Day beaches and museums. The manoir is a beautful building and the rooms are better than some 5* hotels. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a peaceful and restfull location when touring the area. If you have the opportunity take the dinner on arrival option, it was delicious and again as good as some 5* hotels
