“A fantastic zoo”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 June 2014

A fantastic zoo set in the troglodytes.
The walk in aiveries are incredibly impressive a real must see with brds from all over the world.
The animals all seem very happy and are content to be in view not hiding in the corner, I was really impressed with this zoo.

“Best Zoo ever!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 May 2014

We visited Bioparc last week. We stayed for over 5 hours and could have spent longer. It is set out in an old limestone quarry. We are not normally lovers of zoos but this is so different. The animals look incredibly well cared for. The birds from around the world are in aviaries which you walk through. You are as close to them as they choose to be to you!
My french is not the best but the staff were really helpful.
I would recommend a visit if you are in the Angers, Saumur, Tours area. It's a good day out.

“Cleverly set out zoo”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 September 2013

I'm not a fan of zoos but this one is worth a visit. The animals are in open settings whenever possible, some with huge Perspex viewing windows so that you are literally a few mm away from them, others on islands separated by narrow moats. The aviary is an amazing experience, as the birds are literally perched next to you, and feeding time in the vulture pit is certainly worth seeing. The giraffe enclosure is very clever, as they are in an old quarry area so their heads are at your level. The zoo is largely suitable for those with mobility problems, the map provided has a suggested route with lifts marked. The signage is in French and English and very informative as it concentrates on conservation. On the practical side - the food in the snack bar is very average and the restaurant is expensive but does have the attraction of overlooking the giraffe enclosure. There is a large, free car park opposite the entrance. We spent much longer here than we intended as it was such an interesting experience.

“Great Zoo, great for all ages and mobility”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 September 2013

We were staying just outside the town and after reading the reviews decided to visit this attraction. To be fair I am not a fan of Zoos but understand and accept that if they can be used to promote both conservation of species and educate people then that is no bad thing. Also that animals are not cooped up.

I was pleasantly surprised that so much attention and thought had gone into the design of this zoo to make it feel that the animals were in a reasonable environment. The space for both the rhinos and giraffes was quite staggering. The aviary which is apparently the largest in Europe was well worth going to see with so many species and some flying over head. It clearly made you feel that you were experiencing something special.

Using tunnels as walk throughs helped keep you cool and it is clear that this zoo still has plenty of space to expand. Clearly an exceptional place and well worth a visit.

It was nice to see how they also thought about disabled people and the ease with which they are able to get around due to the flat surfaces.

The gift shop was also very good with some unusual items at very reasonable prices.

A must see if you are in the area.

“Fantastic zoo in awesome setting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 September 2013

The thing setting this zoo apart is the setting- parts of it were an old quarry- newer parts of it have also been quarried out so the perspective on the animals is different to normal zoos. The highlights have to be the giraffes at feeding time (uniquely the giraffes are at child's head height) and the enormous birdcage with all the tropical birds. This was about the size of a football field and you walk around inside this with birds-flamingos, parrots, vultures all flying around you. Quite a revelatory experience. Well worth the entrance money. It was also clean (despite the birds) and there are plenty of snack areas. We tried the cheaper hot-dog/burger area at reception for lunch but this wasn't great. There were still plenty of spaces for picnic lunches and given the price in the main restaurant(despite its views of the giraffes) would recommend taking your own food.
