“An Alaskan Ace in Anchorage”
Reviewed 10 September 2012

My husband and I stayed at the Embassy Suites for two nites before venturing to Brooks Lodge in Katmai National Park, and for one night on our return before we picked up our train to the cruise ship in Seward. Our experience here was beyond our expectations but what one would expect from a Hilton property. Extremely late check-in was a breeze and our room request was honored cheerfully. Fabulous breakfast in the AM and we were delightfully filled "to the gills." Had dinner on our last nite downstairs in the lounge and it was delicious and well priced. Happy hour gets you two drinks on the house, which is was very busy both nites we were there. Just loved the hospitality in this lounge.
Wonderful bed to sleep off the jet lag and super quiet room location. Spent the day acclimating to the new time zone and a super meal at the Crow's Nest at the Captain Cook which was worth the price. Shuttle service from the hotel to just about everywhere if you don't have a car. Staff is use to helping tired travelers to and from just about every train or airport going to and from Anchorge. Location is a little out of the "downtown" Anchorage walking area, but the shuttle will drop and pick you up if you want to venture over. Mall across the street for anything you may have forgotten -- just like home! Great gym; great pool;great front desk; we could LIVE in this hotel and would not hesitate to book again. Prices are steep and book early for the summer -- it does fill up quickly!

Room Tip: All the rooms seem to be super! Only four floors so there is no huge height to the building as are...

Plan ahead if you are traveling for fun: we booked in advance by about 5 months and got a great rate.
This is NOT your typical embassy suites. Yes, the rooms are similar. But the design and public areas are very modern, clean, updated and stylish.
We were concerned that we would rather have a hotel in downtown... but we were literally 5 minutes away and liked the location better anyway. (Downtown has a certain grunge factor.)
Great laundry, fitness and pool facilities. Free parking. VERY friendly and supportive staff. Felt like home for our time in Anchorage.

Room Tip: If you ask for a room away from elevators, you are in for a hike. We still liked it, but felt like...

I've lived in AK 30 years and quit staying at hotels on town trips years ago because they are cramped, ugly, over-heated, and stale smelling. Unable to book my favorite B&B on a holiday weekend, I booked a room at the Embassy due to it's convenient location, and was pleasantly surprised by it's cleanliness, comfort, and the quality breakfast that came with the room.

Seven of us stayed in two adjoining rooms for 4 nights and we loved this hotel. The breakfasts were great and the cook is amazing--he juggles so many orders at once and gets them all correct...at one point the line was 20+ people long and he still insisted on replacing the dry French toast sticks on my daughter's plate with a couple of fresh homemade slices. The manager's reception was unexpected, but fun and relaxing at the end of the day. One night we stayed on and ate at the restaurant, Pi, and were not disappointed--they had great seafood dishes. The rooms felt spacious, the beds were comfortable, the staff was always pleasant, and the location was convenient for us. We had a glitch with the shuttle bus to the airport, which for some reason, you cannot reserve in advance...fortunately the flight was not missed, but that was the only problem with our visit and the manager was very apologetic. We would definitely recommend this hotel for families and hope we get the chance to return again someday.

Room Tip: Book in advance in the summer--the rooms go fast.

Thank you for completing a review of your stay. We appreciate that you chose to stay with us here at Embassy Suites. I am glad that the guest suites met your approval but most of all that you felt that the staff treated your family well. I am blessed to have a great team such as our breakfast cook who does a commendable job juggling orders with a smile. It is our sincere hope that we get to welcome you back again.

There were only 2 of us in our "suite" on the 3rd floor of this beautiful hotel but our room could have easily accomodated 4 adults in comfort. Very clean with all amenities..you will feel spoiled! We ate at the "Pi" restaurant in the hotel for dinner and the food and service was excellent!

Overall, this is a very nice hotel. I enjoyed my stay here for the most part and the decor and upkeep of the entire hotel is very nice. The only problems we had are that our room was dusty upon arrival. I let the front desk staff know about the situation and it was corrected the next day by housekeeping. The computers in the business center are so slow that it impossible to get anything done, or even check your e-mail. That was not rememdied during our stay. Though there was one server at the restaurant most of our stay that was excellent on 08/28/12 there was a young Russian lady who was a little rude. My wife ordered a Chardonnay, but was given a white wine that was much too sweet for her taste. When we asked to switch it to a Cab, which we already knew that she liked, the waitress tried to talk us out of the request, then said we didn't know about wine, and said that it would cost us another drink. I stepped in and we finally got her to switch the drink for the cost of only one drink, I mean my wife only sipped it and it wasn't acceptable, come on! Other than her, however, the rest of the restaurant staff was great and we enjoyed eating there a few times. The breakfast was also very good, as well as the manager's reception. So other than some minor problems this was a good hotel and we would definitely stay here again, if in the area.

Thank you for taking the time to offer feedback on your stay. I am very pleased that you enjoyed our hotel and recommend us for future stays. I am very sorry that there was an issue with a server that was apparently not handled well by her. We appreciate your business and look forward to your return to the Embassy Suites in the future.

I was very pleased with this hotel. I have to admit that I felt forced to stay at this hotel becasue we had power outtage at my place due to the wind storm. We were warmly greeted by the front desk, and sent off to our hotel room. We walked in and it was beautiful. The beds were comfortable, and the staff was great. We loved our stay very much. The hotel accommodated my family of five very easily, and we would definitely stay here again. It was pricey, but it was worth it for a good nights sleep

Room Tip: Ask for a room closer to the elevators if you don't want to walk. The hotel is bigger than it...

Thank you for your nice comments. I am sorry that you were among the many in Anchorage that lost your power for more than a day after the high winds hit the city. I am pleased that the staff and the hotel provided a comfortable alternate during a difficult time. We hope you will have the opportunity to return in the future without having a power outage.
