'we were in the corner room on the second floor, #201. It is right above a gift shop that stays open until 11 pm so the people talking while passing in and out as well as standing in front were very distracting. There is no A/C so the windows had to be open and the floor fan that did not work properly so we could not use it. The hotel is on the corner of 4th and E. Fourth Street is a busy street so you have traffic noise from cars and motorcycles especially when the weather is nice. Fortunately it rained the second evening we were there so the noise from the sidewalk and street was minimized. I would not recommend this hotel.

I really liked this hotel for service, location, and convienience. The drawback was the ambient noise. Our room was just one level up from a very a busy street. There was so much street noise that even as a generally very sound sleeper, I could not fall asleep until after 3 am when things finally settled down some. It was the worst night sleep I had on my two week vacation.

Dirty bath and small room. Old and used environment, need maintenance.
Price much higher than other better hotel in the same area.

The hotel has good service and a nice atmosphere. We'd stay here again. Convenient to downtown, including the museum and the weekend market.

Room Tip: Request a quiet room.

Our room was lovely with 2 double beds, but not very large, it was adequate though. It was clean and very comfortable. There was free wireless in our room which was a bonus. We had a room that faced onto the street front so it was very noisy especially on the thursday night. We were greeted with hot chocolate chippie cookies straight from the oven which was heavenly. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I didn't use the gym but would have been o.k for a bit of exercise, it was very small. They had organised a catered breakfast for our group but it was not very nice at all, it would be better to go elsewhere or they should change who they pay to do their catering. The catered breakfast let them down!!

Room Tip: Nice, clean and adequate

Generally, this is a good hotel and with free breakfast that makes it a very good deal in Alaska. However, if you can't stand noises then go find another hotel. My room was facing the bear square and it was noisy on a saturday night that you wouldn't be able to fall to sleep.

And if you do stay in this hotel, make sure they don't put you on a second floor that near the conference room.

Dear Great Bear 77:

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Happy to hear you find our hotel nice, with a free breakfast and a good "Alaskan deal". We are working closely with the city on the noise issues we are experiencing downtown. Anchorage does have a noise ordinance and it has been a tough battle. We will continue to voice our guests' comments with the Community Council, the Assembly Members, Anchorage Police Department and the Mayor's office.
I am sorry for your inconvenience. Thank you again for your comments.
Warm regards,
Terri

Quaint, historic hotel in a great location close to restaurants, shopping and the coast. We were upgraded to a suite which gave us lots of space to regroup after traveling through the interior. Great value.
