Historic Anchorage Hotel

We really enjoyed our stay at the Historic Anchorage Hotel. The Hotel is located in the heart of the historic district, shopping areas, and restaurants. The breakfast had a variety of choices and was very good. The Hotel beds were comfortable and the rooms were spacious and very clean. Terri Russi and her staff were always friendly and very helpful in suggestions on things to do and see. I would rate Terri and her staff a definite ten! Thank you for making our family vacation a trip to remember!

The hotel is conveniently located just two blocks from the Convention Center, which is where our luggage was transported from our cruise ship. Restaurants and shops of dowtown Anchorage are all within a few blocks. The lobby of this historic hotel is cozy and inviting. The rooms were of a decent size for an old hotel. We loved the waffle maker at the breakfast bar in the morning -- it made perfect waffles! The room featured a fan and a white noise machine, which puzzled us at first. But when we were awakened in the middle of the night by drunken revelers leaving a nearby bar at 1 a.m., we realized why the white noise machine may have come in handy.

Stayed in Anchorage on the first night upon arrival. Staff was friendly and rooms were cozy and comfortable. Loved the restored character of the lobby and rooms. Breakfast was plentiful and enjoyed the make-your-own waffle maker. At the end of our trip we decided to spend our last night again in Anchorage. We immediately called and made a follow up reservation. This time our room even had a small sitting area. After 4 days kayaking/camping and sleeping on rocky beaches - our last night was one of sheer comfort. Would definitely recommend this as the place to stay in Anchorage.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the 3rd floor and you are further off any street noise.

I spent one night here and found it absolutely charming. The coziness of the lobby carried through to the room, which had a large, comfortable sitting area in addition to the more-than-adequate sleeping area. The continental breakfast was so-so, but couldn't be beat for convenience. And the hotel is an easy walk from the railroad station, which was handy for me, since I was taking a morning train out. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone spending a night in Anchorage.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet location. You won't get a view, but you also won't get the street noise.

This place wouldn't be too bad if they just fixed three things. 1.) The hotel is located right near Rumrunners bar/nightclub and has super thin walls and windows, so you can hear everything outside. You can clearly hear every conversation on the street and all of the drunk people outside. You can also hear the guy that gives a tour of the city every night talking to his group about all of the ghosts and stuff. Not good. 2.) The breakfast is not too bad if you don't mind all carbs (waffle, bagel, oatmeal, toast, cereal). 3.) The mattresses are super old and really uncomfortable.

The rest is actually really nice. I've stayed in much worse, but I've also stayed in much better. Especially considering the high price.

Room Tip: Corner rooms and rooms facing the street are very noisy.

I stayed here with my family for a night. We chose this hotel for its downtown location (though Anchorage is a pretty quiet place and you have to change your perception of what downtown looks like). The other hotel with a similar location was the Hilton, and suffice to say, this hotel was slightly cheaper and offers free wifi.

The hotel is small and likewise offers a homely atmosphere. The main door is locked at night (just like a good old house). The staff who runs the cafe also runs the reception desk. There is no airconditioning since the weather is cold enough at night to provide airconditioning.

The rooms were a little small for my liking, probably because of the age of the hotel, but we didn't have too many problems there. Continental breakfast is free and offers a decent spread.

One not-so-nice thing about our stay was that our room faced the road, so at night some rowdy young men disrupted our sleep slightly.

Overall, it is a little pricey considering we stayed during the peak summer period, but it makes a good one or two night stayover location.
