“Historic hotel in great location”
Reviewed 29 July 2014

We have stayed at Historic Anchorage Hotel for many years. The location is superb- walking distance to downtown shops, galleries, and the Anchorage Museum. Saturday and Sunday market are closeby.

Manager Terri Russi and her staff are knowledgeable and warm.

Is the only hotel in Anchorage on National Register of Historic Places. Hotel has many historic photos, and was a kind of second home of Sydney Laurence, Alaska artist.

Hotel is clean, comfortable.

Room Tip: Street side rooms can get rather noisy on weekends, but also provides great views of local culture...

The Ideal downtown location. Close to the Trolley starting point and to Stores and GOOD restaurants. Breakfast was Excellent. Desl persons were polite and made the experience very enjoyable. And it's near a Starbucks. Lots of souvenier stores nearby.

I selected the hotel because of its proximity to the visitors center and the train station. Also, being a smaller, historic hotel has a lot of appeal. We were only in Anchorage for one night so I am not able to give an in depth review.

Located downtown, just a few minutes walking from the Train Station and Anchorage main streets, the hotel is located in an old building, rooms are clean but with no air conditioning system (it seems incredible, but Anchorage could be really hot!) and noisy (they are located on the street, with no isolation at all). Continental breakfast is really poor and arranged in a dusty and dark room with no service. Receptionists are good at their works and always smiling and kind, but for the high prices of the hotel this is not enough. If you are going to spend some days in town there are more affordable and nice hotels to choose from.

Nice to feel in a place with more character than a hin high rise. Room had photos of old anchorage....and we lucked out with a huge room and sitting room. Staff extremely nice. Breakfast included but could be improved. Make your own waffles tasted like cardboard. Bread was a disappointment...whole wheat wonderbread....but if they fixed that they'd get a 5 from me

I recently stayed at the Historic Anchorage Hotel. Although we missed our first night of the reservation due to circumstances beyond my control (weather and mechanical issues with the flights), the hotel manager was unwilling to bend and refund any part of the $300+ nightly fee. I was hoping to make a switch to the next Thursday evening due to the unforeseen travel problems, NOPE, she would not budge. The hotel was nice enough- overly priced and hot with a terrible view, but the fact that they were so unwilling to help us out in any way was very disappointing. Stayed at the Marriott the following week. Which by the way, they were very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Ask about the views if it is important to you, no AC and no screens on windows. They did have a fan...
