“Not Comfortable”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 August 2014

This historic hotel is just that. It is old even though it is maintained. The rooms are small and stuffy. Do not go when it is warm or hot because at best they only can offer you a fan. If you leave the windows open it is noisy. There are no amenities. While the hotel may be historic there is nothing that we found that explained it's history nor could you discern this from the decor. The staff is friendly. But there are other hotels that while not historic appear to be far more comfortable for as good if not a better price.

Room Tip: There is some quiet in the back of the hotel.

Spent a great two nights at this hotel conveniently located in downtown Anchorage. Very nice room and the staff was very courteous and helpful. We stayed in a room that has reports of paranormal (read- haunted) activities associated with it but didn't experience anything out of the ordinary. There is a notebook downstairs where guests reports are recorded for posterity.

We were located right downtown close to everything, especially places to eat. The room was nice and clean. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. They helped arrange a cab to the airport. They served a nice complementary continental breakfast. Check out the stories about the ghosts in the bar.

Great location, and nice continental breakfast. The beds are comfortable, but note there is no air conditioning. Normally, A/C isn't necessary, but during our June stay, it was 'abnormally' warm. Be sure to read about the various hotel ghost stories in the breakfast room.

Room Tip: We stayed there 3 nights before our trip to Denali, and one night coming back from Denali. The re...

The hotel is centrally located in the heart of downtown. Just steps away from restaurants, shop, visitors centre, attractions. The hotel is charming and well maintained. The staff are friendly and very helpful. Highly recommended.

This hotel is in the heart of downtown Anchorage. It's location makes it easy to walk just about everywhere in the downtown area (e.g. Anchorage Museum, Anchorage Mall) If you are staying there during a weekend in the Summer it's location is caddy-corner from the Farmers Market. This market is a bit of a misnomer in that it is mainly comprised of arts and crafts rather than food but the selection of items to purchase is plentiful. As for the room itself it is very small but also clean. The staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful. The biggest disappointment would be the bathroom which was tiny. Also as the daylight in the Summer months (June-August) is between 16-18 hours each day the lack of adequate drape closure allowing in sunlight at all hours is a problem. I think all hotels in AK should be thinking about having Velcro sewn into the curtains/drapes to keep them completely closed. Breakfast served was okay. Containers of yogurt would be a nice addition. Very interesting photography of historic Anchorage is on the walls of each of the three floors of the hotel. I was impressed by the knowledge of the management on the origin of the photographs.

We have stayed at Historic Anchorage Hotel for many years. The location is superb- walking distance to downtown shops, galleries, and the Anchorage Museum. Saturday and Sunday market are closeby.

Manager Terri Russi and her staff are knowledgeable and warm.

Is the only hotel in Anchorage on National Register of Historic Places. Hotel has many historic photos, and was a kind of second home of Sydney Laurence, Alaska artist.

Hotel is clean, comfortable.

Room Tip: Street side rooms can get rather noisy on weekends, but also provides great views of local culture...
