Stayed for a few days before and after the train trip to Denali. The quaint cottage atmosphere was wonderful and was just a few steps from the coastal trail that will take you downtown or along the bay depending on your direction. The staff was most amendable to storing my friend's fishing gear while we went off on the railway jaunt to Denali.

If you're tired of hotels, this is a great place to try plus it's location makes it a wonderful way to experience all Anchorage has to offer: from downtown to the fisheries, it's all within walking distance if you bring your tennies along!

Room Tip: No elevators available: If you have a lot of luggage, explain that so they can put you in a room in the main building. We had to drag our luggage downstairs from one bulding, across a small courtyard, and then upstairs to our room, with no one to help with the luggage. Okay except that it was unexpected.

We only stayed a night but the stay was perfect for our needs- it is close to Downtown Anchorage to go out for dinner, close to the Alaskan Rail station and right near the Tony Knowles Coastal trail. We had a room in the main building -upstairs and at the end of the hall- it had plenty of space with a walk-in wardrobe for our bags, a bath and shower ensuite and a view over the buildings to Cook inlet. The room and the common areas were very clean and comfortable- as we were the only guests in early January it was very quiet also. We needed to leave before breakfast hours so we were generously provided with a takeaway packed breakfast with lovely homemade muffins, fresh fruit , yoghurt and takeaway coffee.
We enjoyed our stay and would definitely go back.

Room Tip: The upstairs rooms in the main building are high enough so that you can see Cook inlet from your room.

The Copper Whale is in a great location right downtown but near the shoreline. Most of Anchorage is walking or biking distance including the best restaurants, the hike/bike trail, and great breweries and bars. We arrived late but were greeted warmly and were shown to our room. The room was nothing high end, pretty basic, but the decor was rustic and cute and we had our own view of a water feature and little porch area. The water pressure and temperature was great and the room was the perfect size for our family of three. Having access to the washer and dryer was very helpful and everyone there was super nice and accommodating. Would definitely recommend.

I can't say enough good things about the Copper Whale and its excellent staff. We checked-in late, after everyone had gone to bed, but our room was all ready and the view out the window over the water was lovely in the sunny moonlight. Location is perfect for walking into the city, strolling on the waterfront, or even going to the train station. Our flight left very late at night, but there was no problem storing our things all day and even taking a shower after returning from a bike ride (rentals right next door). Great breakfast, too. Highly recommended!

The Copper Whale is a sweet small inn that provides excellent personal service. I stay in Anchorage several times annually and the Copper Whale feels like home. Great location downtown, comfortable rooms and lovely breakfasts. Staff is personable and really cares about the quality of your stay. I always meet interesting Alaskans and travelers over breakfast or just relaxing in the communal living room with a fantastic view. Don't miss this place - signed, SE Alaska traveler.
