We stayed here for two nights this July. This is a nice, contemporary hotel that is away from the busy downtown area but close to lots of things to see and do. You feel like you are in the mountains in the middle of nature, not in a big city. The queen room was nice - it had a sitting area that was separated from the bed by a desk and divider. The breakfast, including in the room cost, was basic but good - it did have fresh fruit and some protein options. Would highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for an even numbered room on the 2nd or 3rd floor - those rooms face the lake and mountains.

We made our reservation about 6 months in advance as this was for a family wedding during peak season. We labored over our choice between this hotel and a less expensive hotel with fewer amenities closer to the venue. We wound up deciding to spring for the extra to have a more relaxing experience and I called the hotel after booking to ask that they include a note that we needed a room with a bathtub. We made the wrong choice. First of all, when we checked in, we were told that they didn't have a King room available and would have to give us a room with two queen beds. When I said that I made the reservation six months in advance and paid for the King room, suddenly a King room was available but when we got there, it didn't have a tub and we wound up going back out to the lobby to start over again. We were finally set up in a handicapped room since that was all they had left with a King bad and a tub. What's the point of making a reservation if they just give the room you reserved away to other guests?

The handicapped room was nice as it was larger than the standard rooms but the closet was too short to hang my dresses and the thermostat didn't work properly so the AC wouldn't turn on when the room was often 10 degrees hotter than it was set for and then wouldn't turn off even after the room was much, much colder. This led to some troubled sleep since I would wake up too hot or too cold. There were other problems disrupting our sleep as well. Most notably, there was a large gap at the bottom of the door (probably 2") which let light in (I had to block it with our suitcases as it was very bright) but also let all of the sound from the hallway and elevators in and, since it was the sunny season, there was activity all night long. On our last night, we got next door neighbors that came in from a different time zone and that was the worst of it because they were LOUD all night and went in and out of their room every 10 minutes. Seriously! It was bizarre. We got no sleep at all that last night. It was awful.

Even more annoying than all of that, there was some sort of paving project going on in the parking lot and when we went out to leave the morning after check in, the section we were parked in had been taped off with caution tape and the construction workers told us they were about to tow our car! There were no signs posted indicating that any portion of the parking lot would be closed and none of the hotel staff communicated that to us nor did they give us the parking pass when we checked in that we apparantly needed on our dash to be parked in the lot. The construction workers said they had been calling around to try to figure out who the car belonged to but didn't have any luck. None of our phones ever rang; not the room phone or either of our cell phones. What kind of hotel has their guests' cars towed without some sort of notice?!

When we returned to the hotel that evening, the pool was closed. It was becoming pretty clear that this was not destined to be a relaxing trip and boy were we right because the next day a group of 50 school kids checked in which made getting breakfast or even an elevator nearly impossible. Of course, once 50 kids have been through the buffet line, you don't want to touch that food anyway.

The super overpriced market in the lobby also failed to carry basic necessities like nail clippers and shaving cream (you know, things you can't bring in your carry-on luggage). Also a problem but so minor compared to everything else that I almost didn't bother mentioning it.

Needless to say that this was our first and last stay to this hotel. We're in Anchorage once or twice a year but I now know that even a cheap roadside motel would be a better choice.

We stayed at the hotel for one night prior to catching our cruise ship out of Whittier. Hotel provides a free shuttle to and from the airport. After a traveling for 9hrs, the beds were heavenly. Would highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed at this hotel 4 nights, one night as we arrived at 2:00am from a LONG day of travel and 3 nights on the backside of our trip. It was a great experience both times. The rooms are clean, spacious, with 2 queens and a pullout sofa. Beds were comfy. The bathrooms were nice in that the toilet had a separate room with sink, and the shower had a separate room with sink...this made it more convenient for a family of five. The breakfast was excellent with a lot of selection and the breakfast area was spacious. There was outdoor seating, too. Upon check in, they give you Hershey chocolate bars! There is a very nice walk right outside the hotel. We saw beavers swimming in the pond! The hotel convenient enough to town/airport, though it is not super close. I would definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: The lake side rooms have a lovely view

This hotel is clean and fairly new. The suites are pleasantly furnished, and the shower room was magnificently spacious. The bed was comfortable, but other parts of the room design left a little to be desired. Most notably, there can be a lot of hallway noise from other guests entering their rooms because of the architects' placement of the doors in clusters, and the internal acoustics within the rooms magnifying rather than dampening the door noise. Other minor design issues were that there was limited lighting around the bed, and the temperature was quite variable during the night (this was a winter stay.)

The hotel is conveniently situated for access to Anchorage's University and hospital district. This part of town is experiencing a development boom, but has pleasant wooded areas, including a lake and trail close to the hotel. (FYI, for those who may be looking for proximity to shopping, or to the downtown where there are more dramatic views of the mountains and Cook Inlet, this location would not meet that expectation.)

Last but not least, the staff was pleasant and helpful, and the property has a friendly atmosphere.

Dear Tlevaksilver,

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay back in February with us. I apologize for any inconvenience caused to you due to noise or temperature control issues. In the winter, we have a little more flexibility to move rooms if need be to try and get a quieter section of the hotel for you. Additionally, I agree we are a little out of the way from most restaurants and shopping, but we also provide downtown transportation complimentary to accomodate for this.

I hope the next time you're in town, you'll choose to stay with us again and give us a second chance. Thank you again for your feedback and I hope to see you soon!

We fly in close to midnight to Anchorage, and shuttle service to the hotel was prompt in picking us up. Upon check-in the front desk informed us that they also provide shuttle service to the downtown Marriott hotel, which is the pick-up location for our pre-cruise train ride from Anchorage to Seward. The next morning we enjoyed a nice 1.5 mile walk around the small lake behind the property prior to the free breakfast. Standard Springhill Suites breakfast fare, and the food was plentiful/refilled constantly. The June morning was beautiful, so we enjoyed the breakfast outside the breakfast area. The shuttle service was waiting for us at the appointed time to take us to the downtown Marriott for the next leg of travel.

This hotel is in a great location if you have business at the University or visiting Providence. There was some mix up with my reservations, but the front desk cleared that up and was able to secure rooms for me. There is a complementary breakfast, the standard hotel breakfast, but it is free so take advantage of that if you are pinching pennies. There is a pool available, but I did not use it. The rooms have a modern decor and the showers are very large and spacious. Free WiFi is in all the rooms.
