This is a store as much as an attraction. You can look through the windows at guys working on the knives. Otherwise it is just a tourist shop. But I liked it

From the visitor's center you can catch a ride to the Ulu Factory. I enjoyed watching the knives being made and the demonstrations on how to use the knives. If the front of the store, they have a few boards and knives marked down with a few flaws. The store has great souvenirs and is the best place to buy jade bracelets. Also, out front there is a place to buy rain deer sausages. This a great place for a quick lunch. Do not miss the river in the back of the building where you can fish for salmon.

We enjoyed walking around and learning more about the ulu and how it continues to play a role in the Alaska range. It was clean and well organized. The staff. Was friendly. We walked in as we were returning from watching people fish for salmon in the river. Would not make it a special destination but worth walking in.

They even have a free shuttle from the visitor's center to the Ulu Factory. Lot's of cute stuff in the store, but watching them craft these knives was really neat.

The Ulu Factory is a unique shop/factory. This is where the real Ulu knives are made. However you will pay for them. You could watch the knives being made on both sides of the building and along the back of the shop. We shopped a huge souvenir shop while waiting on the Trolley Tour and I bought a couple of Ulu knives and got one free. When at the factory, we were told that the ones I bought are made in China and will not hold up like the ones made in Anchorage at the Ulu factory. We were given a coupon book from the Visitors Center, but the coupon was only good on the Ulu cutting bowls, that are seconds (not perfect). I did buy a bowl and decided not to buy the knife. While paying for our purchases, we were offered a tour of the factory. Even though you could see some of the people making the knives, she said the tour went into everything about Ulu knife and how they make them. We passed on the tour, but now I wish we would have taken it. I did end up buying a "real" Ulu knife at the Iditarod Headquarters with the dogs engraved on the handle.
