At the end of a 2 week sea-land vacation this was a very pleasant spot to wind it down. Very good location and a room that more than exceeded our expectations. Totally clean and quiet with black out shades so you could get a little shut eye in the land of the midnight sun. Everything is in a easy walking distance.

Room Tip: Higher is better for the view

We stayed here before we began our cruise. I found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. Questions about nearby restaurants, assistance for my elderly mother, and checkout info were all handled well.

Room Tip: There are views of the bay - ask for one!

This was our second stay at this Marriott and it was not a disappointment. The staff hear are friendly and want to make your stay in Anchorage a positive experience. This Marriott may cost a bit more than others in the Marriott chain but it is well worth it, since everything is in walking distance except for the airport which is a short ride. In addition to convenience, the downtown Marriott offers a great breakfast bar and nice lunch/dinner restaurant. All food we were served was above par. There is no bad view from the rooms though the best may be over the bay or looking north. The only downside is that committing to care for the environment is offered by delaying cleaning of towels, there are no towel racks in non-handicapped rooms.

Room Tip: The rooms we had both times were near the end of the hallways. I'd suggest these since many arr...

our Disney tour started here. We stayed for two nights. The rooms were very spacious and had all the amenities we needed. We had two queen beds. The bathrooms were nicely upgraded. The location is the best part here. We walked all over town and felt safe. We did not have the hotels breakfast buffet as we had our own private one in one of the conference rooms. IT was always frest and great choices . Fresh baked muffins, Mickey pancakes, Bagels, toast, eggs, bacon, potatoes. Great Job Kyle, i think was his name. The hotel was definately busy as several fo the cruise ship passengers left out of here. They do have valet. They were very nice and helped us with directions. They even called us a taxi one night to go out to dinner. I had forgotten my toiletry bag and had to buy hairspray in the hotel shop( tiny) and the front desk gave my a toothbrush and toothpaste. I got by. This hotel met all of our needs. On our trip this was the middle choice for us. The alyeska hotel in girdwood was fabulous. The Grande Denali Lodge was our least favorite as fas as the rooms go.
Tip: if you order room service try the clam chowder and halibut cheeks, the best we hadon the trip.

We loved the location for this property, in the center of town and walkable to many of the attractions, including the Anchorage Museum, gift shops, restaurants, laundromat, and shopping mall. Service was a bit sporadic in the restaurants. The breakfast buffet opened late, seemed under staffed, and food was not ready at the appointed time. We did appreciate the extra efforts of the bellman, including Alton, who helped us tremendously when our Alamo rental had a flat tire as we were leaving for the airport and the rental car company refused to provide any service in our predicament and threatened to make us pay for the tow back to the airport. (I won't be using them again.) Fortunately, Marriott has a tire pump on site and gave us enough air that we could limp back to the airport and eventually made our flight, despite the delay. We also enjoyed the concierge service and had lovely, clean rooms with beautiful city, mountain and waterfront views. We stayed twice in this property. The front office staff was very responsive and helpful. But the restaurant crew really needs some good leadership. There were many good restaurants and art galleries and shops within walking distance from the property. A laundromat is about 8 blocks away, just beyond the nearby shopping mall about 3 blocks. The bus station nearby seems to be a magnet for homeless folks, so do be careful. We also saw a drunk being bodily tossed into a paddy wagon in the middle of the day near this area, so it is well patrolled. I especially enjoyed meals at Orso and also the neighboring art galleries there. The hotel is only a 15-20-minutes ride from the airport and we pre-arranged a shuttle through the hotel, rather than take a taxi. The driver was especially friendly, met us promptly even though we arrived in the wee hours of the early morning, and gave us a marvelous and informative tour of Anchorage on our way to the hotel. He loved Alaska and it showed. It was remarkable warm and friendly way to begin our 12-day Alaskan adventure. Don't miss the Anchorage Museum. The exhibitions there are beautifully presented and interestingly curated. The shops at the Captain Cook Hotel are very nice with good quality art and curios. We enjoyed browsing through them after dinner.

Room Tip: Rooms offer mountain views or water views, with city surrounding. We enjoyed both during our two sta...

We checked into this hotel last night after many hours of travel from Atlanta. We have had reservations for about a year. We were given the smallest hotel room I've ever seen on the third floor with a view of a concrete wall. While in the shower cigarette smoke poured thru the ventilation and filled the entire room. We were told by the front desk they were unable to give us another room and were unapologetic. Room service arrived quickly but the chicken was dry and obviously had been frozen- definitely not worth the price.Very disappointing start to a long awaited stay. Would not recommend.

Hello Ashley,

I am very sorry to hear about your disappointment during your recent stay with us. I do wish there would have been a special request regarding a desired views on your reservation. All of the rooms in our Hotel are the same size and we receive many comments regarding how spacious they are, in fact they are the largest standard rooms among of all the full service Hotels in Downtown Anchorage.

I have spoken to our FOM regarding the lack of empathy our front desk agent displayed, this is not something we take lightly and we apologize to you, as this is not an impression we want to leave you with.

I do hope you enjoyed your visit to our great city and state.

We stayed 2 rooms 2 nights in July 2014. Check in and check out is easy. Rooms are clean
and well appointed. Hotel within walking distance to shops restaurants and activities.

Big problem we had is with the restaurant and food service. The hotel has a lot of large
Tour buses coming and unloading. I believe it was in relation to cruises. The restaurant
Was overcrowded, and not enough waiters or seating. People waited long periods of time
In a line outside of the restaurant. The waiters put your check on the table before you even
get served, and don't return to see if you need additional coffee, juice, or other items.

The cream on the table was sour, the melon on the buffet was spoiled sour and mushy.
The cook who was trying to cook omelets, and waffles , could not keep up with the volume
Having only 1 waffle iron, and 2 small frying pans. We waited 35 minutes for our omelet and
Never got the waffle. We gave up. Waiters cannot be attentive because there are too few of
them.

You cannot walk in the lobby or lounge area because of the lines from the cruises waiting for
The buses to pick them up. It is noisy, crowded, and pricey. If you are not on the tour bus or
Part of the cruise, it is not a great place to stay .

Room Tip: Don't stay here go to the Hilton or some other downtown hotel.
