We have stayed at the Microtel a few times over the years, dating back to when it was a decent, clean, newer airport hotel. It is one of the few that offers a resident discount in summer, making it affordable. Over the years, it has fallen into disrepair, but up through last summer, we still felt it was fine for a one night, basic stay when flying in or out of Anchorage. Our last stay changed our minds. The whole hotel smells like cigarette smoke, even though our room was non smoking. We opened the window to find it dirty and trash behind the curtains. The mirror was cracked, the bathroom floor was dirty, and our toilet plugged up in the middle of the night. My husband had to call for a plunger- not a usual practice in a hotel. Our sink was also slow to drain. Breakfast has gone downhill and isn't really a benefit anymore. Unfortunately, this hotel has fallen to the level of other non name brand, somewhat sketchy Anchorage airport motels. It really needs to be cleaned up. We decided we'd rather make the 3 hour drive from home and pay for airport parking than stay here again. The one positive was the front desk clerk was very friendly and helpful and ran a plunger right up to our room at 1 AM. Never again unless we see that they have done an entire remodel.
Thank you for your candid review of our hotel. I am very pleased our front desk attendant saw to your needs very promptly. I find it very disheartening to hear we have not lived up to our own reputation. While we do have a few smoking rooms left, we have taken steps to ensure the smell stays in those rooms. We are addressing the problem of our guests who smoke by the entrances which allows the odor to get into the hotel. I sincerely apologize about the debris found in your room, and would be indebted to you if you could call me with the details of your stay at 907-245-5002 ext. 426 so I can address this with the hotel cleaning staff, and maintenance. This last spring we did replace all of our beds; TV’s and upgraded our guest internet. Currently we are in the process of replacing carpet throughout the hotel. I would also love to hear how you think we could improve our breakfast as we have continued to offer more selections over the last few months. Once again thank you for your review, and I hope to hear from you soon! Sincerely, Teresa Peterson – General Manager.
Stayed here for a few days. Internet worked okay, things were clean. Breakfast is pretty unimpressive- bagels, muffins. Nothing substantial. It was a much less expensive than other hotels I was seeing around Anchorage- and in a comfortable, quiet area. They do provide guest laundry which is very convenient- although they didn't have a bag to carry things to the laundry room. The building and the room were comfortable and looked nice.
Unfortunately the walls seem VERY thin. I had trouble falling asleep because I could hear people talking on their phones or watching TV in the next rooms. So, that's unfortunate. Plus our door shook anytime someone came in the door at the end of the hallway.
