I travel a lot. I see a lot of hotels. This is one of the best hotels I've stayed at. Internet access in the hotel room is really important for me. They offer free wireless AND ethernet access! I don't have wireless on my work laptop. Company doesn't allow it. Many hotels only have wireless access now. This hotel had both and I was really happy about it. It was really easy to get online too. The room is your standard hotel room fare. However, they had a fridge and microwave already in the room. I loved that. Didn't have to ask for it. Everything worked perfectly. The staff was great. Very friendly and helpful. Plenty of storage room in the closet. Extra pillow and blanket already in the closet too. Nice. Housekeeping did a great job as well. The fitness center and pool area are above avergage as well. The equipment is new and there was enough room to work out. I'm staying here again in July and then August for business. The only negative was the price. $199.00/night. Yikes.

Given the title - why bother. Other area hotels, from the Captain Cook downtown to the Embassy Suites provide better everything! My toilet ran all night and no amount of requests and complaints changed the situation. I just checked out.

The hotel has changed and the people are very nice. I travel all over the world and received great service at this hotel.

Hotel is a clone of any other HGI you will visit anywhere in the US.

Stayed on 3 different nights during a two week visit to Alaska during late July/early August.

"William" at the front desk was friendly and helpful upon check-in and with questions to find movie theater and car wash.

Good location, easy to get to from airport and to get onto highways heading out of town for touring.

Service at the morning breakfast was poor (there are at least a dozen restaurants within a few blocks of the hotel).

Otherwise our stay meet expectations more than many other hotels during our stay in Alaska.

Comfortable, clean, with very friendly front-desk staff. Nice area - close to a few restaurants within walking distance. Great shuttle service too - to and from the airport and other places in town.

  • Liked — Cleanliness, friendly staff, free shuttle service
  • Disliked — Price gouging during tourist season.

I paid for this hotel in advance (Net Direct Rate). I paid for a 'King' Room. We arrived late due to flight, the hotel clerk was rude. He also changed rooms on me and put me in the last room at the end of a long hall- VERY small, toilet broke.
Next morning checked-out, we got out in the parking lot just as they were going to tow our car rental away! They were working on the Hotel Parking Lot! There were no signs and no warnings- other guests vehicles were being towed away as well!
Also the hotel clerk charged my card again for the whole amount and I am STILL having to prove to the Manager I already paid in full in March. What a lousy welcome to Alaska. Fortunately the rest of our trip was great except for one other Motel in GlennAlan.
We stayed at 6 different establishments between Alaska & Yukon.

I've probably spent an entire month at this hotel over the past few years. Most of the time it's fine, but there are opportunities for improvement:

CONVENIENCE: Close to Ted Stevens Intl Airport, and adjacent to a variety of restaurants: Applebees, TGIF, Starbucks, etc. There is a 16 screen theater a few blocks away (I believe on 36th Avenue). And it is a straight shot to downtown Anchorage on C Street.

ROOMS: Spacious, comfortable. If the hotel is full of people, sometimes I can hear TVs and talking through the walls. Beds are comfortable. Rooms have a microwave and a small fridge.

POPULARITY: The hotel is popular with airlines. No matter what time of the year you come, the hotel always seems to have a large number of pilots staying there. Most of these pilots fly overseas routes to Asia, so the hotel often times seems busy 24 hours a day with the flight crews coming in and out.

CUSTOMER SERVICE: 90% of the time it's fine. 10% of the time the front desk is preoccupied and I end up waiting for them to end a phone call or some other pressing issue. It's only an issue when I'm trying to check in at 2 am and want to get to bed.

Last week while I was checking in another guest had just arrived, saying he had waited for an hour for the shuttle to pick him up. "Your hotel needs to check out the local bars to find your shuttle driver, " the guest said. The hotel clerk then tried to blame the guest, accusing him of standing in the wrong part of the airport, not calling the right pickup number, etc etc. It reflected poorly on the customer service for the hotel.

Another problem came up with the room cleaning. After coming back from work, a note was shoved under the door saying my "do not disturb" sign was hanging outside the door, and therefore the maid did not clean the room so as to not wake me. I never use the "do not disturb" sign, so I wondered if the maid just wanted to to end the workday a few hours early.

BREAKFAST BAR: The staff is great. The lady who acts as the sole waitress most mornings is very friendly and attentive. She remembers me even when I haven't stayed at the hotel for several months! The chef as well is very attentive, and the food is good.

THE FINAL BILL: When I checked out last week, there was about $23 worth of phone charges that I didn't make. I brought it to the attention of the front desk and was told "all the guests are getting those charges." She removed them from my bill, but I was left wondering about those guests who did not look at the bill closely and take it up with the hotel. Were those people stuck with the charges??

Aside from the few items stated above, this remains a decent hotel which is clean and convenient for my business needs in Anchorage. I will stay here again.

  • Liked — CONVENIENCE TO WORK AND DOWNTOWN
  • Disliked — CUSTOMER SERVICE SEEMS TO NOT BE WHAT IT WAS A YEAR AGO
