Booked with Rust's for a 1 day fishing trip. They flew the 5 of us to McDougall Lodge. What a beautiful day for a plane ride. In 3 hours we all had our limit of Silver Salmon. We were scheduled to fly back at 6:00 but Rust's sent a plane back to pick us up at 3 since we were ready to return to Anchorage. What a great Trip. Thank you Rust's.

My wife and I took a cruise from Anchorage and had a few days prior to explore the area. We wanted to see Denali but we knew we had limited time to do so. We came up with the idea of doing a flightseeing tour after doing a few internet searches. Rust's Flying Service caught our eye because they have been in operation for 50 years and they consistently had great reviews. Add one more 5 star review from me.

Because we were trying to stick to a schedule during our stay in Anchorage, we booked ahead with Rust's for the half day Denali tour. When we showed up at their office on Lake Hood we found out the weather was bad that day over Denali and they weren't going to go up that day. Although we were initially disappointed, we were able to reschedule for the next day. We reshuffled our itinerary and changed our plans to go up to Denali the next day. I thought this was a reassuring aspect of Rust's service, the fact that safety of the passengers comes first, as well as not going up on a day when the views are not that great.

Fortunately for us, the next day was a picture postcard beautiful day. We met our pilot, Dan prior to boarding the plane. He was a very experienced pilot and made us all feel very comfortable about flying us up. We took off from Lake Hood and the entire flight there and back was graceful and spectacular. I sometimes get nervous on small planes but our pilot was so experienced I never once felt nervous on this flight.

On the way to Denali we were treated to spectacular views of the tundra around the Anchorage area. Then when we reached Denali the views of the mountains and snow peaks were like something out of a National Geographic show. Our pilot glided us over the peaks so expertly and gracefully. At times you felt like you could reach out and touch the snow peaks. The views in every direction were jaw dropping. You couldn't take it all in or take enough pictures to capture it all. The highlight of the tour was when our pilot landed on a small glacier lake right in the middle of Denali national park. He landed that plane on a dime so gently it was amazing. This was an experience I could imagine beforehand but it so exceeded my expectations. Perhaps it was a once in a lifetime experience but I would love to do it again someday.

I would recommend Rust's Flying Service to anyone who is interested in doing a flightseeing tour of Denali, a glacier tour, or a wildlife tour of the Anchorage area. They are experienced, reputable and very friendly and accommodating. They also offer free shuttle service to and from your hotel, which is very handy if you don't have a car. These guys have been doing this for a long time. The pilots are very experienced and the planes appear to be very well maintained. This is a very unique type of experience for seeing Alaska and it is something I think everyone should experience at least once in their lives.

Many Alaskan's can fly their own planes, the rest of us wish we could! I went out on a two hour glacier tour and was amazed! Wait, what's a bigger word than that? No really because that's the one I want to use. The mountains and glaciers were magnificent! Our pilot pointed out many interesting landmarks and history of the area. You don't have to come from other places to be astounded at the beauty off the beaten trail/highway in Alaska, you only have to go!

Just took a 3 hour flight to Denali. Pick up was timely. We had an hour delay due to low ceiling but were kept well informed. The trip was outstanding. Visibility was infinite and the views were beyond belief. Our pilot Paul was informative and a great source of Alaskan information. His landing on a mountain lake was so smooth I didn’t believe we touched down. Important to dress in layers as the plane can be cool. Staff were all very professional. Highlight of my Alaskan visit.

We were collected from our hotel and taken to the the Lake Hood office to check in for our flight and tour.

Staff were friendly and efficient and we were so lucky with the weather. It had been poor weather the day before to it was sunny and our Caravan plane was ale to depart at 8.15 a.m. The pilot was very friendly and gave lots of information to the 9 tour participants.

On arrival we walked from the plane just a few steps, signed our disclaimers and were given huge yellow-waxed waterproof coats. Then it was just another few steps to our pontoon boat and our Captain/guide Mike who was really excellent. Our group stayed together all day with Mike on his boat which was quite comfortable..

We were returned to shore for a really excellent salmon lunch and restrooms, then it was back to the boat for the afternoon viewing.

In total we saw at least 22 bears from the pontoon boat, mostly at quite close range, plus a further few from the air before landing. We also saw Bald Eagles, Loons and Mergansers.

The whole day was really excellent and exceeded our expectations.

After a good return flight we were taken promptly back to our hotel from Lake Hood.

Everyone in our family of three generations thoroughly enjoyed our bear-viewing trip to Bear Mountain Lodge in Chinitna Bay. We were flown there by Rust's Flying Service. We boarded planes that had tires equipped to land right on the beach where we would disembark to see Brown Bears in their native environment. Everyone at Rust's was friendly and professional. Our first trip was cancelled due to inclement weather. Thankfully, we were able to re-book our flight. During the flight to Chinitna Bay, our pilot pointed out some interesting sights--the Beluga Whales, for example. We were able to ask him questions through the headsets which were provided. As we boarded the plane for our return trip, we were given box lunches which was a great way to conclude an amazing adventure.

The van picking us up was late to the hotel. When we got to Rust's, we just stood around for perhaps 30 minutes after we were individually weighed. Finally a man in flip flops wandered out, said he was Paul (?) & led us to a beautiful, shiny pontoon plane. We took off. He was a man on NO Words! Any questions were answered in few or one word & hard to hear! We went looking for mountain sheep. The people on the left side of the plane saw sheep, the people on the right side saw none. We circled a small group of mountains & with 25 minutes were back on the water taxing back to Rust's facility. We got out of the plane & Paul (?) walked off without a word. We were led back to the van & taken back to the hotel!
We were never welcomed nor were we thanked for giving them our business!
This was a tour offered by Holland America.
