“looks can be deceiving”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 June 2014

when we arrived the buildings exterior was less than impressive which was compounded by the lack of a lavish lobby. After check-in, however, the atmosphere did a 180. The rooms are enormous with huge windows, plenty of heat, jacuzzi baths and newly installed beds - TWO DOUBLES. The view provided a panorama of the Alaskan Range. The hotel is a stones throw from the park and a short walk to the downtown area. The staff are "homey" and friendly beyond friendly. There is free van service to the airport and they are very conscientious re getting you to the airport on time.

Room Tip: try to get a room facing k street and on the third level to get the best view

One of the hotel staff was not particularly competent. She initially could not provide us for secure suitcase lockup before check-in time (another employee later had no problem with that),.. and then she asked to charge my credit card for an already paid for Expedia purchase (my bad for not sticking to my guns). The next shift took time to sort it out but I'm still waiting for the refund (just not what you want when you are traveling to know when you get home you will have to track the progress on that). The other staff were pleasant enough.

The place itself is an old building, it feels more like you are in a big house than a regular hotel. The floors and walls are paper thin in terms of noise containment.

My biggest concern was cleanliness. The bathroom was ok, and floor vacuumed, but the bed spread made me wonder how well (many hairs and a weird smell).

I am flexible and can tolerate all that for a low price, but that was not the case - it was kind fo pricey (but obviously the best deal I must have found at the time).

I chose to make reservations at this hotel due to it's downtown location and that it had an airport shuttle. I hoped with our stay scheduled at the beginning of the season, we would find the facility clean, fresh, and eager for business. What we found was dusty, warm (no fan, no a/c), with TOO much room freshener. What smell were they trying to cover up?? Couldn't breathe. We left. Walked to another hotel that was clean, fresh, ceiling fan and an elevator.

Room Tip: If you stay, keep in mind there is not an elevator (if you're traveling with any amount of lugga...

My husband and I enjoyed our 1 night stay here, clean room, hot showers, fridge, microwave, space heaters, iron, ironing board, hair dryer, flatscreen tv, cable, and not to mention the most comfortable beds. The staff was friendly, Private parking lot, downtown area, and very private. We would highly recommend this hotel for a get-a-way. Price is Perfect !!!!

Were it not for the really friendly front desk staff, it would be very easy to give this "hotel" a 1 star or lower review. But the staff are nice up front, so they bring it up to two.
The whole facility has I would guess 16 rooms and each is different, so that is kinda cool. However, the first night, we were given the "deluxe queen suite". I don't think "suite" means the same thing here as it does in the lower 48, since the room was just big enough to accommodate the bed and a small dresser and a chair. Thermostat for that whole section of the hotel did not work so the room was freezing. They did have a portable oil radiator that worked really well to the point that in the middle of the night, the room was an oven.
We were upgraded at no charge thereafter to a kind sized room which was definitely larger than the first but again, had to heat with the mobile radiator. At least there was plenty of really hot water for showers.
Walls are paper thin so was actually able to hear the couple across the hall doing...whatever....they were doing!
Do not expect any extra toiletries beyond soap and conditioning shampoo. Bring your own shampoo and conditioner!
Hotel was admittedly clean but rooms dated and small. if I were to return to Anchorage, I am sure that I would stay elsewhere. Oh yeah, NOT handicap accessible.
Continental breakfast is supplied and is okay - about even with other places I guess and there is free Wi-Fi.
So, you get what you pay for with this little place.

Room Tip: Ask for the "king suite". Oh yeah, no pool or fitness center.

Stayed here in late August with 2 other couples. Cab driver from airport appeared reluctant to take us as we appeared to be too close to the Airport - I suspect he was looking for a larger cab fare. Hotel quirky, small but very cosy rooms. Staff very accommodating and friendly. Continental breakfast was supplied in the reception foyer (where 6-7 is a crowd), quite good though limited choice and small offerings. Given sufficient warning (say 12 hrs) staff can and did for us offer free shuttles back to the Airport. Hotel very close to the city centre. Free internet access as a real plus to us, wifi reception was excellent.
Worth staying there.

I had a sweet night in the cozy, quirky hotel right next to the Park Strip. It was quiet, friendly, and well-maintained. And quite inexpensive this time of the year. Perfect for a teacher attending a conference.

Room Tip: Most are interior so they are probably all pretty quiet.
