No window, not clean, no breakfast - only coffee (without milk) and sickly buns avialable at reception to take to your room to eat! beds felt as if someone had already slept in them, dark and dismal and strong smell of bleach

This hotel was dirty, shabby, and all around a place where it was worth it to forfeit money for not staying the next night as planned. The neighborhood is a bit dicey, also.

We spent 2 nights here in mid-August. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The rooms were fine and very quiet. We also had one of the rooms on the lower level - which some have classified as the basement. The rooms were clean and the hotel appears to be in the midst of a slow upgrade. We were a little concerned by a couple of the reviews - but the rooms were fine and served our needs. One advantage is that you are away from the big hotels and the "cruise crowd". When you are looking for a less expensive room - you get what you pay for and here you get a decent room at a decent price for Anchorage.

I really don't consider myself to be very picky, but this is by far the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. How does the health department allow it to stay open? It should be shut down and condemned. Do not even think about staying here. The place doesn't look too bad from the outside. However, the inside is another story. The carpet and bedspread have to be at least 40 years old. Dust was caked over everything and many crumbs were on the floor. You could tell they did come through with a vacuum, but it mostly pused all the dirt and crumbs to the side of the room. My tv got 1 channel - although I didn't try it for long. The remote was so filthy I tried to stay away from touching everything I could. Everything is falling apart and made with the cheapest stuff available. The place needs a major update before anyone should even consider staying there. On a positive note, the fellow who checked me in was VERY helpful and friendly. The folks I dealt with in the morning were also curteous and tried to be accomodating. I'd never go back though. Pay the extra $100-$150/night and stay somewhere decent.

I'm a local that booked some friends here thinking it was ok. But unfortunately my friends ended up with a basement room next the front entrance on the street. The drunks, the train and Saturaday market either kept them up at night or got them up far too early. The rooms were too hot and opening a window did little to relieve the heat. There is no restaurant at the hotel. Yes cheap, but definitely better to spend a little more and not have all the noise and inconvience.
