“Disgusting, filthy, deplorable”
Reviewed 21 July 2009

The reviews about this place being filthy are 100% accurate. When I walked up to the front and looked through the window I thought it was storage space - turned out to be the living room - it is very apparent that this place is owned by a hoarder, as you could not see the floor in the living room (see attached photo), clutter is everywhere. Their website has "Recommended by Frommer's as an "exceptional downtown B&B" - this is a FARCE - Frommer's does not recomended filty B & B's. It has the potential to be great - with a complete gutting of the inside, as the cat urine smells so bad in the ancient carpeting (that you can not wear your shoes on). I feel very bad for Marty and especially for her two daughters (they are very nice) for living in such awful conditions. I truly hope someone helps them.

I was looking for a safe place to stay near downtown, and I very much enjoyed my stay there. The host and her daughters were wonderful people and helped make my stay an enjoyable experience. My room was spacious for just myself, and both my room and the bathroom were very clean. I would stay there again if I get the chance to come back.

I stayed here in 2003 and again in 2008, and felt at home both times. Marty and her daughters are wonderful hosts, and the apartment downstairs was the perfect home away from home for our week[s] in Anchorage. Within walking distance of downtown, coastal trails, and the best local grocery/cafe, the B&B helped us feel like we actually lived in Anchorage. And it's just a couple of hours from Seward, and less than half an hour from mountains to hike and/or ride horses through. This is a wonderful place to stay in Anchorage for families, friends, singles, anyone wanting an affordable home away from home.

Enjoyed staying at this bed and breakfast where I ran on the coastal trail near the ocean. Marty the host, a past runner, and her daughter cheered me on. Loved the natural wildflower meadow and tall spruce which I hadn't expected in Alaska. I am a greenie and appreciate eco-friendly homes - wish I hadn't missed the raspberries and apples. Stayed in 2 different rooms - in the home master with antiques and the friendliest cat, and in a totally separate studio apartment with fireplace, kitchen, and washer-dryer which I appreciated after running. The home was clean, friendly, and the host gave me great suggestions for sight-seeing. Tho' the breakfast was only continental, there was good variety, and it was available anytime, so I could eat on my crazy schedule. I would definately recommend this homey B&B - also, the rates were great for downtown.

Raspberry Meadows is in a safe and quiet neighborhood located within walking distance of downtown and the Tony Knowles hiking/biking/cross-country ski trails on the Cook Inlet. Marty and family are very accomodating and make for a very pleasant stay. The downstairs apartment was clean, well furnished, with a stove, microwave and kichenette that very adequately met my needs. I liked the frontyard and backyard wildlife gardens and wish everyone was as conservation minded with their properties.

The Anchorage Downtown B&B at Raspberry Meadows is a lovely place to stay. We have been there for 7 days each summer for the past 2 years, once in the studio and in the downstairs apartment. Both units were always very clean and fresh, the linens changed when requested, and equipped with working appliances that we really appreciated, as we usually prepare our own picnics before leaving for the day, often picking up something simple for an easy supper as well. The on-site laundry was also a bonus. Our hostess was very helpful as to how to get around in Anchorage, and suggested places to visit locally or suitable for day trips. Tucked within a quiet residential neighborhood at 1401 West 13th Ave., this B&B is the perfect location from which to start walking the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail; downtown is not that far (you don't go to Alaska to sit, do you?), and the same hiking boots and rain suits that covered you in the bush are perfectly acceptable here. Hostess will loan umbrellas to sissies. A late-afternoon stroll around the surrounding streets, observing unique homes and evidence of competitive gardening, is a treat a guest of this B&B should indulge in. Although taxi drivers seem to have no trouble finding you, here you are a world away from traffic and the pervasive busyness found elsewhere.

Absolutely terrible place.
Dishonest owner.
I asked, in advance, for a picture of the "Studio Suite" and was sent a brochure w/ delightfully decorated room. Booked it.
The "Studio Suite" actually turned out to be a the filthy, smelly, dump in the damp basement of the house-NOT the room in the brochure.
I feel totally deceived by the owner.
Furthermore, the owners daughters are responsible for most of the cleaning and upkeep.
Are there child labor laws in AK?
