I travel to Anchorage often, and have stayed at the CCH regularly for nearly a decade. I've stayed in hotels all over the world, and this is one of the very best. Have a cocktail at the Crows Nest...and if you want one of the best meals ever, stay for dinner! The staff at this hotel treat you like an old dear friend...why stay at a typical chain hotel when you have this choice.

We stayed here one night before our cruise with princess cruise lines (Alaskan cruise). We were very learly to stay there due to the reviews. Transported there from the Airport and princess had a separate desk for the cruise line passengers. It was very well done and organized. Our rooms were not ready so we went to the bar and had excellent Cosmos. I say this because bars never make a good Cosmo. We also had snacks and they were good as well. Our rooms were perfect, modern, clean, etc. The staff were very nice and helpful as well. We asked if there was a nice restaurant near by and there is micro brewery a block away. Asked if we needed reservations and were told no. We when there and there was up to an hour wait. Ended up back at the same restaurant in the hotel for dinner as we knew it would be good. Had to wait but not that long. Husband and I walked around by the water and train tracks and visited some tourist stores. All in all we had a good time and would recommend this hotel while in anchorage.

Overall the Captain Cook is a very nice hotel and I can't really imagine getting any better in Anchorage. It will be my choice there from now on. The lobby and public areas are first class and the rooms are comfortable with all the modern amenities (flat screen TV, ipod dock alarm clock, fridge, etc). My room had a sweeping view of the inlet. I didn't try the restaurants or any of the shops.

The location is perfect for exploring downtown Anchorage by foot. You can also rent bikes right across the street. It is an easy drive to the Airport, a bit longer to get out of town to the north though.

My only complaint was with the valet parking. At $30 a night (which is astronomical for a city like Anchorage, this is not New York or DC), the service could have been better. They seemed to never have more than 1 valet on duty, sometimes finding him was a chore. At times there was no valet at all and you had to walk to the front desk and give your keys to the clerk there.

Stayed at the Captain Cook at the end of an Alaskan cruise. The rooms were average, the staff were fair but nothing exceptional. I could not believe the hotel had no a/c. The rooms were boiling hot which made sleeping or even being in the room uncomfortable.

I come to Anchorage six times a year, and this is the hotel I keep coming back to. It is the luxury hotel in Anchorage. The hotel does have air conditioning, the rooms are updated, and the staff is accommodating and will take care of any need.

This is the first hotel my, now one year old, had a crib in - and over the last few months the staff has bothered to learn his name, and always watch out for him. On our last trip they gave him a stuffed airplane! This staff goes out of its way.

For breakfast, The Pantry, has great sourdough pancakes- and try the reindeer sausage - no really, try it.

I've seen the other reviews - and I've stayed at all the major hotels in Anchorage- and while some say this is a bit dated- I can say that for every problem I have encountered at this hotel, there has always been someone willing to fix it.

My more comprehensive review is in eatpackgo.com - my personal travel site.

Stay here- it is worth it.

Room Tip: Ask for a suite in the Captain's Deck

Been around for a long time, but updated. Very accomodating staff. Thank goodness for black-out curtains. Pricey, but so is everything else in Anchorge. Very comfortable beds and pillows. Thank goodness for overhead fan in room.

Husband was there on business and I tagged along for pleasure. It was perfect for both! Located downtown so shopping, bike trail, restaurants, all kinds of things within easy walking distance, with the Crow's Nest (restaurant/bar) on the 20th floor looking out at a fabulous view for business or romance, Saw some other places while we were there but nothing held a candle to the Captain! Let the Captain Cook be your "go to" place in Anchorage too!

Room Tip: Higher floors have better views. Junior suites on the corners give better views.
