We stayed here one night at the beginning of our Backroads Trip, and found everything to be just perfect. Not as nice as Alyeska, but a nice, clean, well run option in Anchorage. My son used the work out facility ans was very pleased with it. Breakfast at the cafe downstairs was delicious.

Excellent choice in town. Walking distance to shopping, eateries, parks. Very well kept hotel and a great way to start any Alaska adventure. This hotel has historical meaning in the town as one of the first hotels built.

Dear eyedoc95,

Thank you for staying at The Hotel Captain Cook. What an awesome review. The first Tower was built in 1965 one year after the massive earthquake that shook our great state. With hard work and a keen eye the Hickel Family built a landmark that has lasted almost 5 decades. We look forward to continuing to update, stay current, and provide great service. Thank you for mentioning it and we hope to see you soon.

Sincerely

I stay at the Captain Cook frequently and like the property.

Good location for my short stays in anchorage. Staff is receptive, restaurant (adjacent to lobby) is very good and the work out facility is very nice. Some rooms are somewhat noisy due to street traffic (Anchorage is a 24 hour city).

Location good for walking the Tony Knowles trail or shopping & market in downtown.

Room Tip: Ask for inside rooms in the towers and higher up are better. If, big IF, you are lucky and get a no...

Got into Anchorage at 1 AM and all the hotels were booked. We found a flea bags motel downtown for $149 and drove by it. There were bars and several drunk people wandering the streets. So we decided to stay at The Hotel Captain Cook that was considerably more expensive, it was double.
Well what a NICE surprise.
Out room had two king beds. Breakfast the next morning was excellent. Best breakfast, I have ever had (Reindeer sausage). My mother had corned beef hash w sweet potatoes and it was excellent. My son had sausage gravy over biscuits. He said it was the best he ever had.
Service was excellent; fast and waitress talked to everyone about Alaska activities.

Dear Betty F,

Thank you for staying at The Hotel Captain Cook. I love the way your review turned out. I am glad you chose to stay with us over the other Hotel and that we were able to provide a really nice stay. Seeing how much you loved the breakfast makes me want to order some right now. Too bad its evening time and I'll have to wait until tomorrow. I'll let the Chefs know they're doing a great job and I'll pass this onto the wait staff that their conversations are well received. Thank you and we can't wait to see you again.

Sincerely,

We had a comfortable, 2 night stay at the start of our honeymoon. We upgraded to the Concierge level and it was totally worth it! Free parking, access to fitness center/pool (normally $10), free happy hour (enough food to serve as a meal and 2 drinks per guest), and included breakfast. It seemed expensive at the start but we definitely got what we paid for!

Room Tip: Upgrade to the concierge level, well worth it.

Hotel Captain Cook has an atmosphere of elegance, and it was certainly a treat for us. We enjoyed walking through the hotel public areas appreciating the furnishings and art work. Our king room was nicely appointed, and it even had a view of Cook Inlet. The bedding was attractive and very comfortable. The split bathroom was convenient for two people preparing for the day at the same time. Everything was clean, fresh, and attractive.

The hotel staff was very helpful, from the doorman to the front desk to the concierge to the bellmen. We arrived a little early for check-in, wanting to drop off our luggage and return our rental car at the airport. The doorman helped us to unload the vehicle and called a bellman to assist us. While dealing with our luggage, he allowed us to leave the car with him. Even though we were too early for check-in, the bellman obtained our room number and secured our luggage in our room. Back at the car, the doorman made sure that we knew how to get to the rental car return. Back at the hotel, we felt at home as the doorman and bellman both acknowledged us as honored guests. Many thanks to the Hotel Captain Cook staff.

We spent one night at the Hotel Captain Cook in Anchorage AK. We were three adults in one room booked by Princess Cruises Land tour. We requested two queen beds. We were given a Jr. suite with a king sized bed. We had to have our tour director contact the front desk to get a room with two double beds. The hotel wanted to give us a roll away bed, but we wanted two comfy beds. They were able to accommodate us. We had a late flight the next evening and requested a late check out, which they were able to provide for us.The rooms and beds were comfortable. The bathroom had a very dark shower curtain so our showers were pretty much in the dark. The shops, restaurants, front desk, bellmen and overall service was good. We were there with Princess Cruises Land Tour. Our luggage arrived separate from our group and was to be delivered to our rooms by 4:00 p.m. We got our luggage at 7:00 p.m. I was told they had 450 pieces come in all at once.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a light shower curtain.

Dear Veniece G,

Thank you for staying at The Hotel Captain Cook. We appreciate you sharing your experience with our TripAdvisor community and we're pleased to see you enjoyed your stay. We upgraded you to a Junior Suite but based on your needs I am happy to see we were able to provide the accommodations you were looking for. Our Bell Staff is very friendly and hard working. If the luggage arrives before our guests do we can get a jump on it and usually have it delivered early. If it arrives at the same time we work diligently to get your luggage to your room as fast as possible because we know how important it is and we want you be able to relax and see the city. Thank you for your comments and we hope to see you in the future.
