“Great Stay!”
Reviewed 22 August 2014

Enjoyed our stay at The Hotel Captain Cook. Great location, close walk to many restaurants & site seeing opportunities. Enjoyed, in particular, my morning coffee (a local coffee company, i believe) from The Cubby and morning walk.

The hotel has it all, we are from Anchorage and just needed an evening off so decided to head to the Captain Cook for the evening. It is a beautiful stay with a great view! Everything you need is included, the Whales Tail is a great little bar with wine tasting, and the rooms are fantastic. Even if you aren't staying at the Hotel, I would recommend the coffee in the Cubby (SteamDot, a local brand from Anchorage) over any other place in the downtown area.

If you are going to the Hotel, then my opinion is that the Gym should not be an issue, although it is an additional charge, which may be an issue for some. If you dress properly for the weather, then anywhere downtown, including the train station is within walking distance.

On a trip in late July, we were booked by Holland America here prior to taking the train to Denali National Park.
This is a beautiful hotel in downtown Anchorage, and our room on the ninth floor was facing the waterfront. Everything in the hotel was in excellent condition, and the lobby and shops therein were also very nice. The location is also convenient to shopping and dining.
Check in and check out were simple and pleasant.
I hope we can visit here again!

Room Tip: A waterfront view would be nice, but I think any would be pleasant.

We stayed at this hotel for 5 nights for a conference. The location is perfect in downtown. Close to the coastal trail and restaurants, We had a nice 17th floor room with a great view. Old may mean more character but it is a little tired. Typical nickel and diming approach for everything. $5/day to use the athletic club. Wifi was terrible. Overall service was good although the concierge needs to smile and not make guests feel like they are a burden. Watch out for the cruise crowds, they can overrun and overwhelm the hotel.

Room Tip: Higher floors. Especially in Tower 3.

This appears to be an older property but it looks like it is being run as it should be. Upscale bars and restaurants on the premises and it is in a great and downtown location. I don't see too many other options in Anchorage so I guess this is the place.

I picked this hotel off a recommendation of a friend who travels a lot to Anchorage. We were pretty disappointed. The first room had pretty view and was spacious enough. But being the experienced travelers we are we always check the bed. There was a bug in the bed. Weather it was bed bugs or not we don't know, we just asked to be moved. They immediately had a bell hop bring us a new key and moved us to a new room, which was the same as the old room but without a view. It is also in need of updating. Then I went to set up coffee and the paper cups were used. We tried to get the concierge to help book a day trip but he wasn't interested in helping us. He told us to rent a car and try to get on a boat ourselves. When we asked him to book an airport van, he told us to take a cab. Saying it wouldn't be that much more. The stores and restaurant in the hotel seem to think they are in an up scale hotel, which they weren't, and were over priced. I do have to say it was in a good location. There is a main street for tourism and they are at the very end of it so you don't hear anything.

Room Tip: rooms on the east side have a view

We were 4 ladies sharing a room for one nite prior to beginning our Alaskan Adventure. The Captain Cook was perfectly located to allow us to walk to dinner. The beds & the linens were wonderful and we slept very well. Bathroom was small but clean tho. Our morning breakfast at their cafe was quite good...but the very best part of the Captain Cook was Franco our doorman! He was so helpful & friendly and made us feel welcomed!
