In a town void of character or charm; the Anchorage Westmark is status quo.
When we checked in (1:00am) the staff was efficient enough but when we arrived at our 5th floor room we discovered the world's noisiest ice maker (on every floor by the way). Since the hotel was "sold out" the only other choice was a room on the second floor. Unfortunately, we discovered that the rooms also have little or no soundproofing which is especially painful when tour buses pull alongside and idle at all hours. Another treat was being woken up at 5:30am when our upstairs neighbors started taking showers. Not usually a big deal - except when the walls started to vibrate and an annoying sound enveloped our room (so much for sleeping in).
The rooms are large and mostly clean but really need an update from the worn "1970's Motel 6" decor. The hotel is convenient to downtown but unless you're a hostage to a cruise line or tour company (like us) there must be a better and more economical choice in Anchorage.More
