Comfort Inn Ship Creek

I spent a quick overnight here before an 8:00 AM business meeting. It was February in Anchorage, so there was plenty of dark and plenty of snow.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. They gave 4-star service, which was a very pleasant surprise. The free shuttle van also took me to a downtown restaurant for dinner, and to the office the next morning. They did it on a moment's notice with very good attitudes.

My price was quite a bargain, even for February in Alaska.

But the location stinks. It's sited in what is locally known as "the rail pit." The hotel is indeed surrounded by railroad tracks. A concrete highway viaduct looms above. There weren't many trains sounding their horns in February, but there are plenty once the snow melts. Also, this place stands by itself with nothing in the vicinity at night besides a closed tourist shop and closed railroad offices. To go out anywhere - or to come back - means walking four steep blocks uphill into the city. When there's a foot of snow it's not easy - though Anchorage is very good about plowing sidewalks.

The room was what one expect from this chain. Mine was clean and the bed was comfortable. But there was a musty smell. I had to air the room out, and opening the window at zero degrees is dicey.

The free breakfast was the usual Comfort Inn fare.

Next time I'll book someplace up in the city. I'm an avid walker, but this place is just too out of the way.

We really enjoyed our time at this hotel. The employees were always freindly and soo helpful. We stayed in the rooms overlooking Ship Creek and loved it. They offer a breakfast that had everything you could ever want in the am. We loved the convenience of the free shuttle to town and the train depot. When we arrived on the train from Seward the shuttle was already there and waiting for us. The check in was very efficient. This was the 2nd time we stayed at this hotel and we enjoyed both stays. You can tell this hotel really wants to make the guests feel special. We will definitely recommend this hotel to any one staying in Anchorage and would stay here again when we return to Anchorage.

This hotels is in walking distance to the railroad station. In fact the only reason we took their free shuttle was not all our luggage had wheels. The hotel has train tracks on both sides. The trains go by at 3am and 5am. They must blow their whistles at all crossings. I did'nt mind and went right back to sleep, but several couples in the morning were not happy they just thought it was terrible and wanted to change rooms. The problem is you can hear the whistle from all the rooms. So if this would bother you look elswhere. In the morning their free breakfast was
a mess. The breakfast room is too small for all the guest. This is a big problem since most had buses or a train to catch. There was only one person to keep the coffee pot going and foods available.. There were long waits for coffee and breakfast. I and other complained and it was not corrected. This was not acceptable. I stayed at a another hotel on my return. The Anchorage days inn on east Fifth was a much better deal and had great staff working there.

This hotel was much more than I expected. It is clean, comfortable, and very conveniently located in downtown Anchorage. They have free shuttles to/from the airport, and a delicious breakfast included.
There is lots of shopping, dining, walking, and touristy things nearby, without feeling like you are in a total tourist pit. The Alaskan ULU factory is right next door, too, which was kind of cool. It is right across from the train station (which might bother some while sleeping. . .so ask for a river - facing room. The river is so awesome! There were lots of people fishing, catching huge salmon. . .we even saw the salmon as they made their ways upstream.
The staff was very kind and helpful, and I would DEFINITELY stay again.

We stayed here and found the room to be average. We liked the closeness to the main Downtown Anchorage. Call the hotel for directions if you are driving. All on line map services left us driving in circles.

I stayed at this hotel in conjunction with a trip I had booked with the Alaska Railroad, and by far it was one of the best hotel stays I have ever had. The staff at the front desk were very friendly and went out of their way to make sure everything was just the way I wanted it. I would definetly stay at this location again, and recommend it to others visiting Anchorage.

This hotel was okay. It wasn't worth the money we payed for, though. We got better service at Fairfield Inn for less. The location is horrible. It is located next to the Ship Creek, and the Alaska Railroad Depot. You feel like you're located in the middle of a junkyard, and it made me feel uncomfortable.
The business center was located in a small, locked room that was so hot it felt like a sauna. The computer was outdated and so slow that I gave up trying to access my email account (I couldn't access my yahoo account).
I wouldn't stay there again.
