I stayed here for one night before taking a month long backpacking trip with the National Outdoor Leadership School. I was traveling alone without a car, so I was worried about getting there from the airport and checking in early. Their free airport shuttle worked out great, and they let me check in 2 hours early. The front desk staff was very welcoming and friendly. I felt like the room was clean and nice, however, the bathroom could use some updating. The doors, shower curtain, and shower head were all in bad shape. I did hear the train during the night, but it was probably only because I couldn't sleep anyways. Not sure if it would have woken me up or not. I liked how the hotel is close to the train station, because that is where I was picked up. It took me less than 5 minutes to walk there with my luggage. Also, I remember seeing other people's reviews complaining about how far and tiring it is to walk uphill to the restaurants, gift shops, etc. It took me 5 minutes to reach the main street with the shops, and the walk was easy along a nice sidewalk. If people think that's a hill they need to spend more time in the mountains.

We stayed here twice during our vacation in Alaska. It was exactly what we expected as far as accomodations. Clean hotel, clean room in a location within walking distance of the train station. What was a pleasant surprise was the attention, care and helpfulness of the staff. From Felix at the front desk, who did everything he could to help with anything, to Melanie in the breakfast bar, to the driver of the courtesy van, the staff could not have been better. It was a pleasant stay at a good price and we would definately stay here again.

We stayed here for about 10 hours in between our train from Denali to Anchorage (arrived 8 PM) and our train from Anchorage to Seward (departed 6:45 AM - left hotel 5:40 AM). We had been to Anchorage 3 years ago and stayed at the Captain Cook which was nice but I prefer Comfort Inn which I'll explain below.

Check-in was very easy - just a few minutes and we were in our room which had a king sized bed and kitchen. Although there were a few trains that ran during the night I was surprised at how quiet the room was - they must have good sound proofing - I recall hearing more train noise from our room at the Captain Cook - I guess the rail road tracks run around downtown so most hotels can hear the train whistles.

Location can't be beat if you're taking the train - just a 5 minute walk, or you can use their free shuttle van.

We were concerned we'd miss the complementary breakfast since we had to leave at 5:40 AM but in summer months they start breakfast at 5 so we were able to grab some fresh fruit and yogurts for us to much on while we were at the station waiting to board. They had a bunch more stuff for breakfast but we must eat gluten free so the rest was off limits to us (no biggie - finding *anything* gluten free is always a great surprise for us- we travel with our own food for that reason).

In terms of facilities, comparing the Captain Cook and Comfort Inn is ridiculous- Captain Cook is full service with all the trimmings. But honestly, for our needs, a clean quiet place to sleep for a night, it was great - and far cheaper. Money we could put towards an extra cruise excursion or a nice meal while in Anchorage.

We stayed at the Comfort Inn, Shipp Creek, Anchorage in June. We really liked the location although it is hard to find! We took the Alaska Railroad to Denali and the RR station was very convenient to the hotel, within walking distance. The breakfast area was small but the food selection was pretty good. Rooms were clean and large. Had black out curtains that worked well. The desk clerk needed help in the afternoon at check in time. Shipp Creek runs right behind this hotel. They were having a salmon derby while we were there and my husband enjoyed watching the fishing. We didn't have any problems with train noises which I have read in other reviews. Overall a pretty good place to stay.

Very Comfort Inn, rooms not plush, but comfortable. Breakfast was not great, but adequate. The pool was simple, although a bit cold for us. Minimal fitness area, but we walked outside as much as possible.
Very convenient to the Railroad Depot, shuttles available to Airport, and downtown tourist area. Staff was helpful with directions and recommmendations.
Trains were noticeable, but not obtrusive, the lack of dark was much more invasive to our sleep!

We stayed here on the first night of our Alaskan vacation/cruise. We arrived around 10pm at night and was able to get checked in pretty quickly. The hotel and the rooms were great. Very clean and well kept. The hotel is near the train station so you can sometimes hear the train whistle blow, but it did not wake me up in the middle of the night.

I think the location of the hotel is one of the best things about it. There is a walking path along Ship Creek behind the hotel. You can watch people fishing in the creek, or you can fish yourself since the hotel will let you borrow fishing equipment if you want to fish. I didn't fish, but I need take a walk along the path and enjoyed the wonderful scenery.

The hotel doesn't have room service, but they have an extensive book of restaurants and pizza places that deliver to the hotel. We ordered pizza and at with others in our group in the dining area where they serve breakfast in the morning. The free breakfast in the morning was great, with waffles, hard boiled eggs, pastries and other goodies.

We only stayed one night because we went to Denali for 2 day stay. We did return to Anchorage for one more night before heading to Seward for our cruise. We chose not to stay on that last night in Anchorage, because the rate was going up due to the start of the summer cruise season. But now we feel that it would have been worth the extra cost. We ended up staying at the Econo Lodge Inn Airport, which was a dump. For not much more money, we would have been way better off back at the Comfort Inn. This teaches us a lesson, that cheaper is not always the better deal.
