“Perfect location with very friendly staff”
Reviewed 14 July 2012

As our first night of a 19 days tour through Alaska, we stayed in the Clarion Suites Downtown Anchorage. A quick call from the airport and the courtesy transportation picked us up before we knew it. We were very friendly greeted by the check-in desk (that is so nice after a very long flight) and in no time, the four of us had the two rooms we reserved. The Clarion is only a few blocks away (consider it 10 minutes walk) from the busy 5th street with a lot of shops, bars and restaurants. The room were above standard size, appliances worked well, shower was hot, sheets were clean. What else could we wish for. Breakfast room fills up pretty quickly in the morning-time, especially around 7:30 (is everbody an early riser?) but the staff immediately took care and opened up another room. Did I mention the staff being very helpfull?? They even helped us searched for a room when our experience at next door neighbor hotel Anchorage downtown hotel turned out to be a very bad one. The Clarion suites DownTown Anchorage is definately an hotel that we will use again and can highly recommend.

Room Tip: Book in advance because this place is so good that they are solid booked during high season

Building isn't new but its well maintained. Location is several blocks from downtown, plan a 15 min walk or cab. Room was nice. Breakfast very good.
We were leaving for a day and left a suitcase in storage, which they promptly sent to the train station despite the "Storage" tag, Alaska Railroad figured put what was happening and saved our butt. Wifi service was inop one day and so slow the other two days that we used our 3G service instead. Maid service was minimal.

We had a one night layover in this hotel, picked out for us by our travel agent. We're normally Marriott customers, but found no availability.

This Clarion was clean and very well located. Beds were average, room was spacious and had a nice sitting area. The breakfast didn't start early enough for us to partake. Keep that in mind if you are taking the Alaska Railroad to Seward. You'll have to leave much earlier than you expect.

The free transportation was a big plus. Overall, it was fine for one night.

Stayed here 3 nights in June/July. Suites were clean and very nice with 2 separate rooms and sink/mirror located in between the two rooms. Breakfast includes fruit, waffles, plus eggs, sausage or bacon and potatoes, breads, coffee, juice. Only negative is their location is several blocks from main downtown area. Benihana's is located on corner of their parking lot - but if you want to try true Alaskan food you'll need to hike it and deal with the homeless folks located on several corners or call a cab.

Room Tip: Rooms on opposite side from parking lot would be quieter.

We stayed two nigthts at the Clarion. Good shuttle service to train station and airport.
The breakfast was good (waffles, eggs, bacon, cereal, muffins, etc) and is open from 6 to 9am.
The rooms were clean, well appointed, and comfortable. The room is designed as a suite, with a separate bedroom and sitting room. There were black-out curtains, which was important since we never saw darkness. The beds were comfortable. The staff are young and friendly. Most are from other places and work here in the summer so don't expect much in the way of advice. Use Trip Advisor for that!

Room Tip: walking distance to downtown restaurants (Marx Bro, Glacier Brewhouse, Snow Cafe)

Note that this hotel just had a nice outside face-lift.

The rooms were nice. We stayed for a night then were away for two then back for three more so we experienced two separate rooms.
Breakfast was very good. More than the usual packaged carbs.
Staff neither particularly friendly nor helpful. They don't mention important things like the need for shuttle reservations unless you ask.
Location is at the far edge of downtown that does not look nice. That meant long walks to the interesting things and a lot of parking lots and ugly buildings. When we arrived, we thought Anchorage was the ugliest city we had ever seen until on the trip back from Denali between stays, the driver drove through the real downtown. Then we knew where to walk!

We stayed here the last night of our two week adventure in Alaska. Spacious suite, clean and comfortable. Breakfast area was a nice treat, spacious well appointed room. Pool is small, but is still OK. Only complaint we had was the hallways were extremely warm, but temp in our room was fine. Staye there first week in June 2012 and will stay again on future trips.
