On our recent stay in Las Vegas, we booked a day trip to Grand Canyon and Hover Dam with Viator, however the tour operator was Grayline . The package cost us US$314 per person but it was money well spent for the awesome helicopter ride. We were fetched at our hotel along the Vegas strip and the coach drove through Nevada to the West Rim. The coach was comfortable and our guide cum driver, Sam, gave us a lot of interesting information about the Hoover Dam, Grand Canyon and about Las Vegas in general.
After about 3 hours, we arrived at Hoover Dam and stop at the pedestrian walkway along the new Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge for some photo shots. We were only given 15 minutes for that. We then travelled through the ancient Joshua Tree Forest en route to the West Rim of the Grand Canyon. After a short break at the Gateway Station Mini-mart in Arizona, our next stop was for the helicopter tour. The thrilling helicopter ride provided us with a superb view of the Canyon. We descend about 4,000 feet to the base of the canyon where we were greeted by Mr. Brokensky, a very friendly native from the Hualapai tribe. He briefed us some facts of the trip and taught us the meaning of hand greetings. We then board a pontoon boat for an approximate 15-minute ride on the Colorado River.
We then took a shuttle to the next stop called Eagle Point, where we had panoramic views of the Grand Canyon. There we experienced walking on the spectacular Grand Canyon Skywalk, where we walked over the edge of the canyon on a glass bridge 4000 feet above the canyon floor. We had lunch, rice and vegetable, and the best part of this meal was the experience of sitting eating lunch overlooking the canyon.
Due to the restricted time provided, we could not stop at Hualapai Range and Guano Point which were about five minute drive from Eagle Point.
I would highly recommend this tour as we had a wonderful day and this was our highlight of this trip to Vegas. The Grand Canyon is simply amazing and breathtaking which anyone must see if given a chance.
The setback of this package was really the time limitation. We were only given 3 hours to do all the activities ie the helicopter, the skywalk, the Hualapai Range and the Guano Point including waiting for shuttle bus and queuing for skywalk. The company should allow 4 hours at least. Before we left the coach at the helicopter station, Sam did not remind us on the meeting time again, hence one family returned to the coach 45 minutes late. The whole family was sleeping when Sam first announced the itinerary for the day.
Other than these small hick ups, we truly enjoyed this trip especially the helicopter ride. Video can be viewed at https://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?v=731380096914458&set=vb.100001274240378&type=2&theater
