After a broken down car and a very late arrival into Omaha, dinner options were limited. My girlfriend suggested we try Vietnamese food, a cuisine I had never given very much thought or consideration to. Having supplied the aforementioned broken down car and noticing that Saigon Surface had received generally positive reviews, I yielded to the choice of Vietnamese food, all the while having the strong intuition that Omaha, Nebraska does not exactly scream out as the Vietnamese cuisine capital of the world or the place that one would want to venture out and try that cuisine. Well, although I wouldn’t classify Omaha as the Vietnamese cuisine capital of the world, my reluctance to try Saigon Surface proved extremely faulty. The offerings at Saigon Surface can best be described as delectable and taste-bud-popping. This was largely the product of very fresh ingredients and unique flavor combinations with just the right amount of kick and spicy zing. Additionally, while it is often said that one eats with their eyes first, the enticing fragrance of food caused me to eat with the nose first and set the perfect tone for trying a cuisine that was relatively new to me. Finally, I'll note that while we opted for take-out, the staff was very hospitable while we waited, even offering us a tasting appetizer on the house. All in all, whether you live in Omaha or are just driving through, I highly recommend giving Saigon Surface a try.
