Imagine an old warehouse, a maze of corridors, creaky stairwells and an eclectic collection of art and you’ve got the Hot Shops Art Center. The adventure starts outdoors with a variety of metal sculptures. If you can find the front door (hint on 13th street near Nicholas), you are in for a fun and exciting time. Pretty much everything is for sale, this is not just a gallery. They have metal, photography, stained glass, sculpture, glass, blown glass and photography. While glass blowing is always neat, I prefer the metal shop which is huge. Note that if you go on Saturday, most shops are closed, but you can still see most of their art on display. Children need to be supervised; parts of the center are more machine shop than art gallery. And don’t be fooled, hot shops is North of downtown near the TD Ameritrade ballpark, Homewood Suites and Hampton Inn, and NOT in the old market area where you might think. Street parking is available. If you are into art, it is worth a stop. They also have classes.
