less than a km away as the crows fly from the third minoan palatial site of Malia, this Grecotel is situated in a natural bay protected by an islet, and it is surrounded by nature. Perfect for a family with kids or a relaxing holiday, it's still a drive of few minutes away from historical and natural wonders. One of the wonders is surely the quality of the welcome - treating people like guests and not customers, the smiling but bustling personnel make you feel at home right away. A smile and a kalimera goes a long way! The full inclusive formula allows to to drink and eat at the bars and restaurant with no further charge, and the food is better than average with fresh cooking every evening. We could have done without the tepid entertainment, preferring the sound of cicadas, and the open air disco club for the kids was too loud, but the reception reacted immediately to my complaint and lowered the volume, plus it's only until 11.30 so not too late. Our room on the seafront was a few steps from the beach and sitting outside at night was a pleasure. Absolutely recommended for family with kids and relax, but also a great base to visit various spots in Crete if you rent a car.

Room Tip: the seafront ground rooms are a pleasure when the disco club does not get carried away

We were moved here after the hotel we booked in Sissi was overbooked. This hotel is approx 3km from Sissi, right on a beautiful sandy beach but otherwise a little isolated. We like a walk after dinner but there is nowhere to walk around here.
First impressions were great, it's an old hotel but it has been refurbished to a high standard with attractive neutral decor. We were shown to our room, unfortunately the lift is tiny and our pushchair would not fit! Our room was light and airy and had a beautiful sea view. The beds were very comfortable.

The grounds and pools are very nice. Our only problem was getting around the complex with a pushchair as there is only the one tiny lift in the main reception and steps down to the pool bar, beach, children's pool, playground and entertainment area! There was lots of people carrying pushchairs up and down the steps!
Reception were really helpful and lent us 2 small buggies so we didn't have to carry our heavy double up the stairs.

There is a large buffet restaurant and the pool bar acts as an "a la carte" on certain nights although we weren't informed of this so never ate in there. The food in the main restaurant was really good. We stayed in 4 different hotels during our time in Crete and this was by far the best in terms of variety and quality.
We were at the hotel for 4 nights before we were moved back to the hotel we had originally booked and during that time we were the only British people there. Not really a problem but felt a little bit isolated sometimes.
Overall this was a lovely hotel for a relaxing break by the sea.

This was our first trip to Greece, and we chose Crete by friends advice. One week of relax and good food seemed enough for us.
Location: 40 km from airport, takes 50 minutes to get there, though depending on the number of other hotels' tourists the bus takes. On our departure day it took us almost 2 (!) hours to get to airport because of 9 hotels to collect the tourists. If we were informed before, we would definitely take a taxi which is about 65 EUR.
The nearest village is about 10-15 of walk, though we did not go, it is good for those who wants to get a closer look at the Greek village life or just needs hiking.
The hotel is built as one building of 4 floors with an elevator inside very convenient for families with kids and trolleys.
Rooms:spacious, very clean, with a flat TV and a small balcony, though with 2 chairs and a round table. Under advice we have chosen a room at the far end of the 4th floor with garden view - and that appeared great. No noise from the pool area or the amphitheater where they had some music and dancing parties bothered us. Hotel had been renovated this spring and the bathrooms are fresh, the rooms painted in light colours. There is a normal size bath in the bathroom with an unmovable glass protection from splash - takes a lot of space, I would prefer a shower cabin. No bide, and there is a hole in the floor covered with metal bar for the water discharge. That appeared a problem as the waste waters were not discharged properly and the smell was really strong. The stuff poured there some cleaning liquids there but still it was not removed totally. Towels are changed each day. Beach towels are kept in the rooms, and you need to carry them each day with you to the beach. You can change the beach towels only each 2nd day, though we asked the towel person for change each day and had no problems. The fridge is small and empty - only a bottle of still water was there at our arrival. But you can get any type of drinks through the day and if not enough can buy in the small store of the hotel. There are flying insects and if you want to sleep with open balcony door it is wise to get repellent tablets with you.
Food: We had an All-inclusive boarding and it was also our first experience. You can start eating from 7.00 a.m. and food is served through the day in the main restaurant, snack bar, beach bar - you only need to remember the opening and closing hours for each. All food appeared very tasty and looked very good - special thank to the Shef. Breakfast is rich in choice - for all tastes. You can serve yourself or ask the waiters. Meat was mainly pork and veal, once lamb. Chicken and fish almost every day, seafood was squid in tomato sauce and mussels. All type of vegetables, great choice of fruit, good variety of sweets and drinks. Alcohol served in the beach and restaurant bar is presented by all familiar brands and is of good quality, especially the local beer - light and tasty. At the lunch and dinner time they serve red and white and rose wine at your choice though you also can bring any other drinks from the bar opposite the restaurant which opens at 18.30.
No fresh juices, but good coffee in the bars - not in the main restaurant.
Beach: the hotel enjoys its own beach which is very rare in Greece. That is great as you do not have strangers and feel more safe. The beach is small, sand with small stones, but the entrance to the sea is hard because of stones which you cannot see. You surely will need rubber footwear for swimming. Nobody told us that second half of August is windy, the sea is a bit stormy, with cold flows. The wind causes big waves and they lift algae and the sand and all that garbage is swept onto the beach sand. Thus we could enjoy swimming only a few days. But if you swim well and have the strength to get through stones and waves into the deep waters then you will enjoy. Anyhow the rubber shoes and any swimming device which will help you to get through the first meters of shallow waters should be taken. The sun beds are good with wide umbrellas, but no mattresses, only the beach towels. You can always find a vacant sun bed any time of the day. But if you need a special place with a good view than it is better to come early and to pre-occupy the place. The beach has dressing rooms, showers. But no toilet - you need to go back to hotel, though it is very close - less than 1 minute of walk.
There are also 1 swimming pool and 1 kid's pool.
The stuff: the best service I saw before. Very polite, quick, friendly, always at your service and try to help, speak good English and German, Russian as well as mostly tourists are from UK, Germany, Russia and less from Austria and France. Reception is great - all round assistance and advice you get from them.
On the whole the hotel is very beautiful, with nice views of sunset from the open restaurant terrace and balconies, great location for those who is with kids, for old people for relax, with short reach to the beach, to food places and very quiet.
Though no gym - only ping-pong and tennis ground, and a volley-ball ground on the beach.
Free wi-fi in the lobby and close to lobby open space outside - thus you can show your friends an on-line views of the gorgeous sunset.
There are many types of excursions you buy from travel agency or places you can visit yourself - the planning is easy, the public transport is good, and the car rent is not expensive. Greek are very friendly and assist in case you ask to show the way or to advice the route.
We strongly recommend the hotel for a company of friends, not for young active people, for families with kids even very small, and will definitely visit Crete again but want to try another hotel also.
