Having been on several beach club holidays we didn't find this as good an experience as others have, partly for the activities and partly for the room (see comments below).

The location is beautiful, there are a lot of steps as mentioned on every review, but then most people on this sort of activity holiday are fit anyway. Not having seen it before the refurbishment, the main hotel complex looks good, and I was really impressed with:
1. the small gym and studio. As most of the classes were on the deck, you can use the varied equipment in the studio when its free
2. the spa is new, and treatments were very good
3. being able to road bike is great, a definite plus for the resort
4. the possibility to day sail on a yacht, most beach clubs don't have this
5. the food was generally good, providing you didn't pile your plate high on the buffet (but the coffee on offer in the restaurant was awful).
6. Free beach towels and kettles are a great improvement.

By comparison to other beach clubs I was disappointed in the sailing here. Most resorts have sailing off a beach where one can sit and watch; here the sailing and windsurfing is far removed from the pool area, and the beach sitting area is out of view from the sailing area (with no facilities). We had quite varied weather and it was difficult to tell if there was sailing taking place as no flags were flown - and a return journey of 450 steps to find out what conditions were. We didn't want to do a course because of the time commitment but on reflection maybe we should have. It wasn't sufficiently tempting to do free sailing, which was one of my reasons for going.

We took the night excursion to Parga, but looking back we should have just hired a car - the trip for 2 is about the cost of a car for the day.

The walk into and out of Sivota is OK, and as other have said easy to stock up on drinks cheaper than the hotel. We tried a couple of restaurants and by far the best (and acclaimed by Neilson staff, so maybe they get a discount!) is the hotel before the harbour, excellent quality and a good price, much better than the one's directly on the harbour. I couldn't find it on here, so couldn't write a review or remind myself of the name!

Room Tip: Do not have garden room 402 if its not mid summer. And even then be aware that sitting watching the...

Superlatives abound at this superb holiday and activity destination. Definitely our best holiday experience by a long chalk. You "really can relax as hard as you like" so if your activity is not on the long 'official' list of water-based or land-based activities, then eating 6 star nosh and watching the world go by counts too. The staff are more than happy to please and are most efficient in keeping you trained, entertained, and more. Clean rooms and efficient housekeeping. This was our first time at any activity-based holiday and found it to be excellent value for money.

Room Tip: If you are reasonably fit, then choose a garden room for a really quiet spot, otherwise stick to the...

First time trip to a Neilson resort and it could not have been better. Stayed for two weeks from the 4th May and loved every second of it. Great resort, great staff, fabulous activities and excellent food. The atmosphere is brilliant as the activities and social events create the opportunity to meet loads of people and develop new friendships. OK there are a few steps to negotiate but the views from the rooms and hotel set on the hillside more than compensate for them. We will return for definite.

First ever Neilson holiday and what a gorgeous resort. Learned to sail, kayak and how to play 'proper' tennis. The staff are so helpful, friendly and knowledgable - nothing is too much trouble. They really do make your holiday. The food is so delicious and the authentic Greek dishes are irresistible. We will definitely be back again to improve on the skills we have already learned, thanks to the great staff and the tuition they provide.

My husband and I travelled to Sivota with Neilson for the first week of the season. We had been skiing with Neilson before and had a fantastic experience so we were looking forward to experiencing our first Neilson beach club.

The holiday far exceeded our expectations. We stayed in one of the newly built superior garden rooms and it was lovely - really big and the view from the balcony was beautiful.

We took part in lots of activities, all of which were included in the price of the holiday - sailing, stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, tennis, waterskiing and mountain biking. We also went on one of the sunset yacht cruises which was fantastic.

The food was great and prices for extras such as drinks, ice creams etc were reasonable.

As with other reviews, I would note that there are a lot of steps so for anyone with mobility issues the resort may be a problem. We however found we got used to them fairly quickly and had no troubles.

Overall, a brilliant holiday and very relaxing! Can't wait to go back!

We had a fabulous holiday at The Retreat 4th May 2014. Early season niggles were dealt with quickly by Carl and the very friendly and helpful staff. In 11 Neilson holidays, I have not seen a more visible Guest Services Manager. You will not find Carl hiding away in his office waiting for people to come to him - he is right out there everywhere the guests are, inviting comment and making sure the guests are happy, and you will generally bump into him around 5 times a day!
For early season, the team have gelled well together and their friendliness with each other and the guests gives the place a great feel with a can do atmosphere.
The water ski team and their skilful tuition were brilliant and I was thrilled with my progress. My partner praised the tennis team and again great coaching. Georgie makes the fitness program a winner with her energy and sunny personality not to mention great technical tips, and the volley ball is great fun for both participants and spectators.
The bar area is a great central focus with fun, friendly bar staff and a great entertainer. Together with the fabulous food, the cleanliness and the view, The Retreat is a total winner.

We had never been with Nilson so didnt know what to expect, .and what we got was great.
i dont have any bad things to say about this resort, just an advisory i would invest in a pair of sea shoes to walk over the spit, the walk to get to the sailing, kayaking and the beach, as the walk across the water looks nice but its all stones and very painful in bare feet, but fine with sea shoes. also because the hotel is built into the hill there is alot of stairs, the first couple of days they are a killer but you soon get used to them, and also when you see the views it makes them all worth it.

rooms are nice, and kept very clean and tidy by the fantastic team of housekeepers, known as the dorises they are all lovely.

the food is lovely, there is a wide choice of food and something for everyone, and different each day, as on some resorts the food never changes.

there is a wide range of water sports to try and everyone is entitled to have go as part of your holiday package, doesnt matter what your ablity as in beginner or expert, as there is instructors there to help with all your needs. you can also take the equipment out yourself as long as its not in use, we often took out the kayaks which was fun.

there is also lots of excerise classes ran every day.

there is also a daily swim across to the beach and back, just under half a mile there and back, but you have instructors with you and a safetly boat incase you need a rest, and that is tim and gorgie. they are both lovely.

there is also an onsite physio team, i had a healing broken hand when i went away, but i spoke to tim the physio who was more than happy to help me and give lots of advise, he was that good that i now have more movement in my hand, thanks tim.

kids are well catered for, by the fantastic kids club ran by ollie who is great with kids, even my own son who is autistic and struggles with getting to know people, absolutely loved ollie, and even went sailing and kayaking with him, without us, thanks ollie. no matter what age your children are there is something for all of them.

at the hotel there is a tab system as the bars do not accept money, i would advise to settle up your tab every other day, as it is easy to build up a bill.
the bar staff are fantastic, especially scouse pete, and amine they are brilliant and we had a good laugh with them, they helped make our holiday, so please say hi to them.

when you are by the pool say hi to life guard chris, as when he is on duty he will watch your children for you while you relax, like he did for our son kian. thanks chris

we also went on a sunset cruise on a yacht our cruise was ran by silver and david, they were lovely, we all got a chance to sail the yacht, also you get champagne and nibbles, and while we were out we also saw dolphins.

there is also a trip on wednesdays to parga which is over rated, and also the drive there and back is very scary, with driving on roads with 100ft drops!!! and the drivers over there dont seem to care... parga is nice town you can get a nice meal, and do a little bit of shopping but it doesnt take long to get round all the shops. (A NIGHT TO BE MISSED)!!!! lol

at the front of the hotel there is resident tortoises, there is about 18 of them all different sizes, and ages, they are very friendly. we feed them fruits veg, we got from the meal times, my son really enjoyed feeding them as did we.

there is also on site photographers liz and miles, thought out your holiday they take action pics of you trying the water sports and you can buy these pics at the end of your holiday.
also we booked a family photo shoot, which was done by liz, she was so good, our son being autistic can get bored easily but she was very patient with him and got some fantastic pics, which we bought and also got full copy rights to. thanks liz.

overall we had a fantastic holiday and loved the retreat we will be returning and im looking forward to it.
