“Nice room slightly let down by bathroom”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 May 2014 via mobile

Hrausnef is in a really lovely setting and is easy to find as it's right by main route 1. We only stayed one night as part of a longer trip round Iceland, and we didn't eat there or use any of the other facilities (eg hot tub) so I can only comment on the room. The room was bright and a good size. The beds were very comfortable and the room had a TV and tea-making facilities, which was good as many of the other hotels we stayed at in Iceland did not offer this. The bathroom was the only let-down. The toilet seat was crooked and loose, the tiling and paintwork was very messy, the shower curtain looked like it needed changing and the cleanliness was not great - there were some hairs and fluff on the floor and a lot of the grouting, especially around the shower, was discoloured. Having said that, it all worked fine and was adequate for a night's stay.

We felt very comfortable and relaxed in this hotel. We stayed for 2 nights. Lovely breakfast and staff. Enjoyed chatting with one of the owners while having our breakfast. It was very interesting to know what their life is like in Iceland. We also had dinner there one night. The lamb was delicious and the soup was really good too. The view was amazing and we will never forget that. We also had a walk around the hotel/farm. There were some horses and cows and some sheep. I really liked it there. Would love to stay there again. :)

Nice and clean place. Food was excellent and staff very friendly. Can imagine that during summer there is much more scenery and also believe horse riding etc. We went for quick getaway and had a good stay. Breakfast also good in the morning. No complaints from our side.

Stayed one night and tried tho burger and local beer, they use a lot of material from the farms around and make great local gourmet, meet from the burger from the next farm ecs. We did not try the hot tub but it looked good. I would recommend this place for a short stay the rooms are small but comfortable and modern. It would make a great stop for people driving the circle around Iceland.

Hraunsnef is the type of place you either love or hate. My wife and I loved it! This place is a working farm, and if you're lucky, the animals will come over to be petted. The hotel dog, whose name I forget, is more than happy to become your BFF. We saw the Northern Lights here at the end of August, which is about the worst time of the year to see this spectacle. The restaurant is a bit on the expensive side, but all the food we ate was excellent and the service was too. Robes are provided in case you make use of the hot tubs outside (and we did). There's a fascinating waterfall not too far away; it just pops out (not over) of a very long cliff. Borganes is about a 20 minute drive away. We ended up spending three nights here. The rooms are a little small as are the bathrooms, but still we were not cramped. The owners are very kind and take any criticism in a very positive, constructive way. This is a great place to stay if driving from Reykjavik to Akureyri, although it is a bit closer to the former than the latter. If traveling from Akureyri to Reykjavik, it's even nicer because you can reach the Keflavik Airport within a few hours if you do not want to spend your final night in Iceland in Reykjavik and your flight leaves in the afternoon or evening. Some may say this place is in the middle of nowhere, but if you want to get away from it all, this is a great place to do just that! Cabins are available for those who prefer those over a room in the main building which also houses the restaurant. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: Room 2 has all the foot traffic go past it and so is a bit noisy. Try getting a room closest to the...

This hotel was picked for us by our tour company because of it loacation favourable for seeing the Northern Lights. Certainly in this repsect we were not disappointed as we had an amazing display on a very cold clear night in March. The hotel itself however is very basic in terms of decor and furnishing, though everything needed was there in a rather rustic kind of way. Our dinner in the restaurant was plentiful and tasty but in no way sophisticated, and perhaps a bit more pricey than expected given the decor (for instance, the floor is bare concrete - perhaps plans are afoot for a more permanent covering). There is a hot tub a few metres from the building but we didn't try it as we were far too focused on the magnicent spectacle taking place in the skies around! Whilst the owner and wife were warm and welcoming, giving useful advice on the Aurora, the girl who assisted at breakfast was very deadpan.

Room Tip: You may need to run the hot water for a long time before it gets hot.

Although our towels were not that fresh, this place has very friendly staff and great breakfast and restaurant facilities indeed! There is a small tv in the room with just two tv channels (BBC 2 and an Islandic one). The hotel is next to the Main road no. 1 and located roughly 15 - 20 minutes drive from Borgarnes. From our room I could not hear any traffic.
