“Cozy and Clean”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 February 2013

I enjoyed my stay at this hostel. We had a private double room which was clean and included bed linens. The room was small but big enough for our stuff and the bed was comfortable. Good value for the price. Since we were here in the off season it was very empty so I can't comment on noise.

I ended up at Borgarnes Hostel on a trip when I had planned to tent-camp every night. I was trying to set up my tent in the Borgarnes campground in the midst of a howling wind when the campground attendant mentioned he also ran the town's hostel. I was happy enough to avoid a night of shivering cold!

It was a fine hostel. Multiple living rooms and a nice dining hall. The rooms were small and the walls between them were thin. It might get pretty noisy if a lot of rowdy people were staying there. The bathroom was grim and very tiny.

Price was in line with everything in Iceland- it seemed overpriced due to the exchange rate woes. It was definitely more expensive than stealth-camping on a beach, which is in my opinion the best Icelandic lodging option :)

The breakfast was delicious and the owner was very pleasant. A decent spot to rest and relax overnight during lousy weather.

In the center of Borgarnes is a very nice hostel with friendly service. Very close from the hotel's thermal pool with many attractions. In the hostel there are two kitchens where you can prepare your own meals. There is plenty of cutlery and pots. You can also buy a breakfast prepared by the staff hostel. Bathrooms and showers are clean and functional. The rooms are modestly furnished, but clean. There is a lot of outlets for electricity, where you can recharge your phone or laptop. Wifi is available throughout the hostel and is free of charge. At the reception you can get help and information desk. The hostel's lobby room with a big TV. This is one of the best hostels in Iceland. It previously bought IYHF membership card to take advantage of 25% discount on accommodation. Beware of extra charges for: bed linen and towel.

I am looking for a kind greeting, comfortable bed, a good shower, and a quiet sleep. Oh, and all at a good price. We defintely found that here in Borgarnes. Another bonus is lots of happy travelers from around the world including several families. This is definitely a great spot to spend a night on the ring road. The rooms are simple but there are several configurations that should work for almost anyone.

Room Tip: You might wish to ask for a room on the backside of the building away from the main road. Although...

Wasn't expecting much when we arrived, we had booked it that morning online. It was right on the main road, was clean and comfortable in a simple way, and I was astounded by how incredibly kind and accomodating they were. So friendly. There was a decent breakfast included in the price, free wifi in the lounge downstairs, and was the cheapest place we stayed all week. It had a good feeling, and if it otherwise felt like a college dorm, for a hostel it was fantastic. Better than a lot of the guest houses we stayed in. Perfect for three single guys traveling around Iceland.

When I arrived at the hostel, they didn’t have my reservation. Fortunately I had made copies of the e-mails that we sent back and forth so there was no problem. They just assigned us to another room that was clean but wasn’t made up yet. (For about US$75/night, I wasn’t expecting exceptional service!) Eventually we received the bedding and decided to make up the beds ourselves - the desk clerk was very nice but also very busy.
The furnishings were plain wood with no frills but the beds were comfortable and there was a sink in the room. We opted for the shared bath across the hall, although they had en suite rooms for an additional fee (I think it was $10 or more/night extra). All in all the rooms were spartan but very clean and comfortable. Having not stayed in a hostel before, I was pleased and somewhat relieved. (I’ve heard Icelandic hostels are of generally higher quality than others in Europe.) Borgarnes Hostel has rooms with 1, 2, or 3 beds.
Breakfast was available for an additional fee but the WiFi was free and there was a computer in the lobby. Parking was across the street.
