The hotel is not a walking distance to de centre town of Borgarnes. It is just of the road 1, close to a Golf Course.
Our room had mountains/ Golf views and was spacious and clean. The double bed was comfortable but the extra-bed was not.
No free wi-fi in rooms so you need to go to the reception or restaurant area to stay connected.
Expensive restaurant. We had a dinner at The Settlement Centre and the food was good and reasonable priced.
Good breakfast but expresso coffe only at extra-charge!
The staff was kind.
The hotel is clearly good for big group tours but not particularly charming for individual tourists. Not a special stay to be remembered.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with views to the mountains. The others have views to the parking...

Our tour group took us to Hotel Hamar for two nights. The room was very comforable and large. The decor was somewhat spartan, and we were given a bottle of "wash soap" that was supposed to be used as soap and shampoo. No cream rinse was provided. There was no alarm clock in the room and we didn't receive a wake up call two days in a row. It seems that our room phone wasn't working and the staff was very apologetic when we informed them of the problem.
We had dinner two nights there with our group and the food was just OK.

We stayed here one night as part of our Iceland Complete Tour. It served our purposes nicely. The rooms were nice containing everything we needed. Service was pleasant and the food very good. We had no problems here andwould stay again if part of the tour.

This was my last hotel on a Road-1 trip around Iceland and the third (or fourth) hotel of Icelandair chain. Located directly on a golf course and featuring a wodden statue of a golf player, I got a room in the very new wing of the hotel with the room facing the golf course. All rooms here are actually accesible from both inside the hotel (with the key/card) or from outside (either from parking lot or a golf course, but only if you have the "balcony" door open).
The room in the new wing was really new, the amenities were very sparse (2 soaps - one for bath, one for sink), tissues, kettle, tv, but actually - what do you need more? The view at the mountains was wonderful.
The restaurant was also superb, finally a correctly working waffle iron in Icelandairhotel (!) for the breakfast. Although the dinner menu is pretty sparse (as for all Icelandic restaurants), the chef can make also another dish such as lactose-free if you want something else or can't choose from the menu because of food allergy/intolerance. And the even had my favourite brand of red wine! Free wifi in the lobby and paid one in rooms is regular around all Icelandair/Edda hotels so no wonders here. Plus for staff!
There are two hot tubs in the hotel but because I arrived too late, I didn't make use of them. But I can imagine relaxing there if you have time, the view from them is wonderful... unless you have to wait in line because there are dozens of german or american tourists already waiting in the queue.
PS: I reserved another date by mistake. I immediately called the reception and they very very friendly to rearrange the date. Another plus for the staff!
PS2: As somebody says, it looks like a motel and there actually is a hostel at the property which sometimes moves its customers to the hotel if there is almost nobody at the hostel. Just turn right after you enter the premises and you'll see the hotel itsefl. The one-story building and sparse desing have its reasons, from pretty unstable soil with lots of land (why should they build more floors if they have the space?) and safety in Iceland... No worries here, the sparse image can be really deceptive in Iceland and the simpler the outside, the better the inside is in this country.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the golf course.

This hotel was exactly what we needed on our way back from the Westfjords. Comfortable, impeccably clean, friendly service. They gave us a discount because we arrived so late. Breakfast in the morning was terrific (you could make your own waffles!). We were back on the road the next day feeling refreshed.

Poor customer service, horribly designed rooms. I have back issues, and had to bend down to the floor multiple times to pick up the soap in the shower since they didn´t have a shelf for it.
They were having a wedding, so that took over the entire lobby and hotel, leaving us after an 8 hour drive displaced.
Recommendation----skip this one location, and go to their other 7 hotels. You´ll be glad you did as all of the others are fabulous and we had a great time! They added to our amazing experience in Iceland. The Hamar Hotel put us in a bad mood for the first time on this amazing island.

Room Tip: away from the front desk

When I first saw this hotel, I thought we were in trouble but it plays better than it looks. The rooms are small but comfortable and the mattresses were the best I encountered in Iceland.
The food in the dining room was excellent...very high quality. Wi Fi is free but was extremely hard to stay connected to. All in all though, we enjoyed our stay at this hotel.

Room Tip: Get a room facing the Golf course, not the parking lot and ask for the new wing...very important
