Owner description: Lincoln's widow insisted the slain president be buried here, defying local leaders who wanted to erect a grand downtown memorial.

PROS: free; ample parking; Vietnam, WWII and Korean Memorials (the Korean Memorial was the most elaborate); great examples of military graves from different eras (I saw some from the Spanish American War).

CONS: none.

In this cemetery, you can find the final resting place of the sixteenth President of the United States of America. It was peaceful and moving to be at the presence of an exceptional man who fought to unite a divided nation that is the United States. Don't be here just because it's a tourist destination. Keep an open mind and learn to admire the struggle that the Lincoln had to endure to construct the America that you call home today. But "now he belongs to the ages."

Tuesday evenings at Lincoln's Tomb is especially meaningful. They do a beautiful flag retirement ceremony during the summer and present the flag to one of the visitors. There are also several other monuments in the cemetery honoring fallen heroes. It is a very worthwhile stop while you are in Springfield. We have visited there many times and are always impressed.

Visiting Lincoln's Tomb is very interesting. There is such attention to deatail on all the statues and the interior of the tomb. The guides there are also very interesting. Make sure to ask how many times Mr Lincoln has been moved from his "final resting place"

This is the cemetery where the Lincoln Tomb is situated. It is a calm and serene place to visit. It is well maintained with many areas to sit and enjoy the atmosphere. It goes on for miles and miles and although a cemetery is not necessarily a tourist spot, this cemetery made you feel as though you wanted to sit under a shady tree and just gaze out into the distance and enjoy the view and surroundings and pay your respects.
