We were excited to see the animals. Little did we know many of the animals were MIA!!! Bears-none; penguins- after looking through a very dirty glass window there was one hiding between barrels; tortoise---nada; spider monkey--Aldo missing. Perhaps the animals were still housed for winter. However, you would think there would be a sign stating such. We felt a little ripped off. There was a cool male peacock strutting his stuff. A large snake was there. It didn't move. A wolverine looked at us, was unimpressed and went back to sleep. Overall---not worth it. Maybe it's better in the summer months.

Small, but a nice variety. Petting area, native species and a few unique exotics, South African penguins are a favorite. The peacocks roam free and are very entertaining.

Great little zoo! Good variety of animals to see and interesting facts posted about them. Fun little train ride enthralled the kids. A nice break from the plentiful museums in Springfield, and a worthy place to support!

I had a wonderful time at the Henson Robinson Zoo, 1100 East Lake Drive, on Saturday August 24, 2013. I was in town for a dozen other things and heard about this gem in Springfield, IL.
The lemurs were very playful and an otter took a special liking to me providing a most delightful water show. The turtles were active, the bobcat lounged right near us and the water birds became fast friends. There were enough modern displays full of very interesting animals to keep me amazed and this zoo provided the perfect setting for the animals and the visitors to interact. I learned something new every few feet There were educational activities and classes offered throughout the year and this zoo conveyed lots of information about the animals in an inviting way.
The Henson Robinson Zoo is perfect for children and adults. It was big enough to offer plenty to do and small enough to make it exactly the right size. They offered a selection of snack foods, plenty of ideas in the gift shop and spotless rest rooms. Parking is not a hassle, admission cost were below average and I can't recomment this oasis enough. Whenever you are near Springfield, IL, the Henson Robinson Zoo is a must see stop.

WE ARRIVED IN SPRINGFIELD EARLY AND OUR HOTEL ROOM WAS NOT AVAILABLE. We had a few hours to kill and this little zoo was just the ticket. We had our 2 year old granddaughter with us and she just loved it. She especially enjoyed feeding the goats and the pond with swans, turtles and snakes along with the roaming peacocks. The cages were clean and there was no smell. The terrain was easy to walk with my bum knees. They rent strollers for 5 dollars if needed. There is a covered picnic area if needed and a snack stand. I believe it was only 5 dollars per adult to get in. All in all an enjoyable time.
