I was traveling in Southern, IL and made a point to spend a day at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library. This is an incredible experience and takes you from Lincoln's childhood to the great conflicts of the Civil War. The original cabin is in the museum along with countless artifacts and personal items from Lincoln's lifetime. I especially appreciated the collection from the Civil War including weapons, uniforms, details of the battles and many other items. The exhibit of Lincoln at Ford's theater is also very moving. I enjoyed my day at the Lincoln Library, it was time well spent. Highly Recommend.

Loved seeing all of Mrs. Lincoln's dresses. Absolutely gorgeous! Following the path Lincoln took from birth to D.C. has been an inspiring adventure for all of us. The "272 Words" project is amazing!! Gave me chills. A fun way to see his humble beginnings if you can't get to southern Indiana or Kentucky to see his birthplace or childhood home.

Prior visits by friends and family communicated to me that this new museum was really nice but they were not real descriptive. Childhood memories, prior visits by friends and family, along with the enjoyment of visiting medium size cities for weekend visits was the basis that we planned a weekend trip to Springfield, Illinois. My wife, another couple and myself stayed at the The State House Inn, a 1960 retro theme hotel. Upon arrival, you can tell that the location is among the commercial area of the town (extremely close to a really cool architectural state capital building), the area and the complex was clean. The first half hour my wife is thinking we are staying in a hotel that is dated and not among the nicer places. BUT, once we walked around, visited the room, lounge and lobby area, everyone is smiling and realizing this is pretty cool retro themed hotel. The decor is very modern for 1960 and it is not dated......(ponder that). The hotel is a pleasant walking distance to the museum (very clean town). Along the way are many other attractions associated with Lincoln story, including a state park area encompassing the Lincoln family home and the neighboring homes, which is worth seeing!

Once you step inside the museum, your in awe...... The museum is an interactive and HIGH tech museum, as I refer to as Disney style. It is interesting that Walt Disney was fascinated with Abraham Lincoln, for many of the Disney company techniques are utilized in this museum. Museum encompasses historical items along with high technical displays, such as holograms, which should put a smile on everyone's face regardless of their age. This museum will amaze you by extracting various emotions from you as you visit the early year section, the White House years and the theaters. The scale of some of the displays and the inclusion of the methods used to tell the story are fascinating. Excluding those people that are doctors of study of Abraham Lincoln, most of the public will be astounded as to how this museum will educate you about a story of one of our greatest Presidents.

In case I have not made my self clear.......This was a GREAT trip.......I have been spreading the word to other friends and family and many of them have made the trip to Springfield or have made reservations and are heading there this summer. This town has plenty to offer, dining, unique shops, historical attractions and for at least the summer of 2014, part of the movie set from the movie Lincoln can be viewed. Hope you enjoy your visit!

Springfield brings back the memories of Abraham Lincoln who lived and breathed here for 25 years. The museum, the library, the law office and the old railway station here are worth visiting.

It was nicely put together. Very flashy and showy. Mostly letters, some simple displays, a lot of replicas, and an excellent portrayal of the emancipation proclamation. The actor playing the painter was the highlight of my day as he did an incredible job. We visited on 6-4-14 so you can figure out who he was and pass on my kudos. If you have very young kids 10 and under give it a go, otherwise meh.
