Visited this restaurant three times in the past when sightseeing in Springfield. No problems, quite satisfied, but this trip was a unsettling surprise. First off, the pancakes my husband ordered were not done - they had divots in them and the middle was doughy, plus a blueberry was in one and he did not order blueberry pancakes. Could not believe any waitress would put a plate of doughy pancakes in front of anyone and expect them not to notice, much less eat it!?!?! When we pointed this out to waitress, she seemed surprised that we had a problem with it, but immediately took the plate away and told us she would get fresh pancakes for him. While we waited the host was making his rounds with the tables asking how people were enjoying their meals; when he got to our table we told him about the pancakes. He promised to make sure another plate of pancakes would be forthcoming. The second plate of pancakes were not much better; they were done, but not fluffy and my husband could not finish them as they tasted bland. He would have let this go until we discovered that when we tried to salt our eggs, we were not getting salt - THERE WAS SUGAR IN THE SALT SHAKER!! I immediately marched up to the host with the shaker and told him what we discovered; he was dumbfounded but promised to get us salt. Waitress brought us another salt shaker and apologized, she seemed surprise by the revelation. We were pissed because my husband is diabetic - he ordered sugar-free pancake syrup and uses Equal in his coffee because he cannot have sugar! After that point, we all lost our appetites. The assistant manager came over to our table, told us she took my husband's meal off the bill and again apologized for the mishap. She asked if she could get us another plate of food, and we declined. We left right after that, did not leave a tip, and when we went to go pay our bill, the host again tried to apologize but at that point, it was just a broken record.
I can't say what was going on in the restaurant this morning; it was a busy Sunday morning, but not crowded. Maybe the cook was having an off day and/or the waitress was inexperienced or did not care (just get the food out there) but we were terribly disappointed with our latest experience. Sorry, we will not be returning to this place.

What can possibly go wrong at a Bob Evans? This restaurant was right off the interstate as we were heading south to St Louis. We were hungry and tired so we stopped. The food was great as usual, the service was great (thanks, Erik) and it was a great oasis for us. They even offer dieters some decent choices now.

Bob Evans and Cracker Barrel pretty much constitute a genre unto themselves, food-wise. Generally, I prefer the latter (maybe because of the associated country store's array of nostalgic goods), but there's nothing really wrong with the former. Watch out for the sweetened raspberry iced tea - it's SO sweet, you could almost pour it on your pancakes.

Very good food, fast service, friendly service. Price was good too. The waitress was very friendly and made sure we had plenty of coffee and creamer.
