Icelandair Hotel Fludir

There doesn't seem to be a huge amout of choice in hotels in that part of iceland but we found it a great place to stop a couple of days between the golden cirle and lundamanaugar.
Nice rooms, friendly staff, good breakfast and good food in the evening.
Recommend the walk around the mountain and up the lake just south of fludir (about 3 hours) and the secret lagoon, 15m walk from the hotel with small geysers and a large hot spring.

The rooms are spacious and the food was excellent. The hotel is located within driving distance of the Golden Circle but was, when we visited, very quiet and relaxing. Best part: two fantastic hot tubs in the garden.

Sadly this Icelandair hotel demanded top $ rates without providing value. The room we stayed in was badly maintained & "tired", dirty pillows and mattresses, un-ironed bedding, with couple of rusty old chairs placed outside on the terrace that each room has but no table (there were 4 rusting tables in a row at the end of the courtyard). The hut tubs displayed on their booking site were empty and evidently not for guests use. When I raised this at check-out the gentleman seemed not to care much and said "they were going to do refurbishments soon". All in all poor advertisement for the country's flag carrier and not representative of the beautiful countryside around this property.

I was disappointed by this hotel, room although spacious had a very strange smell, like a wet dog, the room was very dated, we had old rusty furniture on our terrace, but no table, the extra pillows in the room were dirty and had hair from previous occupants on them, the bed sheets were not pressed and stained, when the cleaning team stripped the rooms in the morning they piled the dirty bedding on a sofa in the lobby area so don't sit here. The curtains in the rooms did not block out the light so staying in summer when it's light nearly 24 hours is not recommended. The towels in the room had seen better days, we're rock hard after washing, paper thin but on the plus side they did exfoliate after a shower! The breakfast was not included for the cost of £160 and was really minimal, a few slices of cheese some ham, dried up eggs and dried up beans, you could make waffles but these tasted like cardboard. Go to the garage across the road and buy breakfast for minimal cost and finally the hit tubs were empty and could not be used. Sadly I cannot find anything good to say about this hotel at all. If you find yourself in Fludir stay across the road at the Grund guest house.

The rooms are quite nice and the separate bathroom has a direct access to the hot pots in the middle of the hotel. The restaurant made a great dinner. Unfortunately the breakfast was not that great. For Icelandic standards the hotel is very good.

Room Tip: The inner rooms can directly access the hot pots.

We have stayed here a few times and are never disappointed.

The hotel is in a quite town and is in a good location for a stop over if you are doing the golden circle or wish to continue along the south coast. If you are looking for a romantic place to watch the aurora this hotel is ideal. This is the only place where I have managed to see the aurora having been in Iceland numerous times for several weeks!

There is a central garden with two hot tubs, which is accessible through some of the rooms (i think its all the double rooms) or through main doors near reception. The rooms are lovely, spacious and tasteful and the food in the hotel restaurant was delicious. They use a lot of local products and know exactly how to cook them.

The staff were fantastic. A member of our party had a medical emergency while we were there and I cannot thank all the staff enough for everything they did for us. They were incredibly supportive and really helped to keep us all calm.
