My Husband & I had a very good stay here. Helgi and his mother were extremely accommodating and helpful. Since we were there for the 1st time for only 1 night on a stop over with intentions to experience the Blue Lagoon, we didn't rent a car. Considering how incredibly swamped Helgi was with his wife not helping him anymore with the business, having another job, a child and an ill father, he was amazing, superman really. Had we had a car, it would have been even easier. Helgi charged us a very small fee to chauffeur us around from and back to the Airport, to and from the Blue Lagoon (even picking us up at 10:00 pm which was still light) and his mom drove us all around Grindavik gave us a tour of the landscape and the downed Ships over the years AND took us to a lovely woman working in a fancy Fish place to buy Icelandic Sweaters made by her mother-in-law for a great price! What more can a 24 hour tourist ask? Come on....it was cold and raining and they made our trip personable and memorable. We want to go back for sure to hike and travel all over the land. Helgi told us he had a car he could rent out for a good price and Icelandic horses to ride as well. His English is not perfect, but who needs that when you;re traveling in a foreign country. We understood each other perfectly well!
My assumption for the reason the person who wrote they were shafted in June 2012 when they got there was 2 things...1, I sent email's constantly being very specific about my arrival time and what I expect and more likely is 2, Helgi and his wife split up at exactly that time and they probably dropped the ball unfortunately leaving this poor traveler in the lurch. But, I doubt that would happen again since he and his mother seemed very dedicated to their B&B. B&B's are nice 'cause they are run by real people, but the downfall is real life issues can happen and disrupt the business effecting real customers negatively.
Also finally, the place is barebones. bring your own single bed sheets or I guess (we never asked) you can rent from them. That's the same for towels. Also, the breakfast is basic, but fine...if you want a fancy breakfast I suggest bring your own food. Everything is there though, coffee, tea, bread, cheese, etc...
It was very clean!! And there were some new nice plates from Ikea.
We were very pleased.
no TV but he had wireless internet. :)
