“Nice Inn next door to the Blue Lagoon”
Reviewed 16 October 2013

Most people are here for the Blue Lagoon next door. The inn has a shuttle that takes guests to the Blue Lagoon, and to the airport which is not far away. The inn itself is pleasant, nice view of the lava field, cozy common seating areas, nice breakfast buffet, and Northern lights wake up call service (if you are lucky). I find little reason however to stay in this little town unless you're here for the Blue Lagoon next door. For those who don't care about swimming in this man-made lagoon, know that you can access the Blue Lagoon facilities to take pictures, walk around, enjoy the view, their restaurant, etc. But if you set your heart on the Blue Lagoon and could not reserve a room there (it seems packed at all times), this inn will do it nicely for you.

Who would have thought that a comfortable, modern, friendly hotel would be found next door to a huge geothermal plant in the middle of a vast lava field? Welcome to the Northern Lights Inn!

On arrival, its very daunting/boarder line worrying as your eyes totally bypass the hotel and focus only on the geothermal plant; then you realise that this massive building, clearly in production, that you are looking at is totally silent! It doesn't compute and then it becomes fascinating.

The Northern Lights Inn itself is a clean, modern, well maintained hotel with very friendly, helpful staff that provides a free shuttle service to/from the airport and the Blue Lagoon (must go to attraction) whenever you want. They offer a 'wake up' service should the Northern Lights make an appearance so you don't miss them; we were woken up and were therefore fortunate to witness this breath taking spectacle. We stood on the hotels patio drinking hot chocolate that was complimentary and readily available! Perfect!

Our room was very clean, comfortable and spacious with an amazing lava landscape view.
The restaurant was light and airy and served the most delicious cod ever tasted, but the menu was limited; the choices were 3/4 different fish dishes, one lamb and one vegetarian dish. Due to its remote location, guests only stay generally for 1-3 nights which is probably why the menu doesn't vary much but if you do not like lamb or fish you'll be in trouble!

We stayed for three nights and had a thoroughly relaxing enjoyable time but for us personally , the three nights were long enough.

The charming Northern Light Inn sits in Iceland’s picturesque southwest on the Reykjanes Peninsula, a prime-aurora viewing location. The hotel has a 360° degree observation lounge, allowing you to marvel at the aurora in comfort. The light and airy rooms amidst a surreal lava landscape offer supremely comfortable beds and cozy Icelandic down comforters. The hotel is just a lava rock’s throw from the Blue Lagoon, a 15 min easy walk or free shuttle to/from the Blue Lagoon. Healthy, hearty and home-cooked meals from freshest ingredients can be enjoyed in the panoramic restaurant with spectacular view over the lava landscape and geothermal power plant. The very friendly staff and Max will make you feel right at home. The Northern Light Inn is my choice for “home-away from home”!

We stayed here on our last night after an afternoon at the Blue Lagoon. The hotel is next to the Blue Lagoon and is in the middle of a lava field overlooking the geothermal power station. The evening meal was good and the restaurant staff were very friendly. The room was a good size and very comfortable with a good shower. This is an ideal hotel to start or end your holiday, we visited the Blue Lagoon then arranged for our hire car to be collected at the hotel. The hotel offers a free airport shuttle and early breakfasts. Would happily stay here again.

I would stay here again. We were picked up at the airport. Very friendly and helpful staff. The room was the nicest and largest of any hotel I have stayed in from any of our trips to Iceland. On one tour we had last year we stopped for dinner. It was wonderful.

My expectations for this hotel were far exceeded by the excellent service, spacious rooms and incredible food that we had while we stayed. The rooms were huge and immaculate, the honesty bar and group areas that you could relax in during the evening ensured a great trip. We were a group of 10 coming in on different flights and meeting up at different points and the hotel was able to ensure seamless transfers from the airport/hotel/blue lagoon without a problem and went out of their way to ensure that we had an excellent trip. We had lunch at the hotel and with very short turn around before our flight and not only did they serve the food exactly to the time they promised, it was superb - I'm not sure cod anywhere else will be able to live up to the breaded fish they served here! The landscape is stunning and having the power plant in the back ground doesn't detract from the scenery. It adds a little James Bond flavour to the whole stay!

I can not recommend this place high enough. We had a great trip in large part down to the hotel here.

Close to the Blue Lagoon, this is the place to stay! The hotel is new, light, have spacious rooms and public aeraes of high quality. A honesty bar where you can get yourself a beer or a drink and pay when you leave, are a very relaxing way to treat people and show that the guests are trusted.

The sunday dinner with roasted lamb is the best we ever eaten in a restaurant, the breakfast great and the people are friendly and helpful.

This hotel is a must when you visit Iceland and the Blue Lagoon
