“Great Hotel for a Night”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 March 2014

Loved this hotel for our first night in Iceland. We arrived in Iceland early morning, spent day at Blue Lagoon, and stayed at the Clinic Hotel that night. Very peaceful and clean. Good continental breakfast. great private hot spring pool, and easy and pretty walk to Lagoon. Also, good place to see the Northern Lights.
Dinner at Lava Restaurant at the Lagoon was wonderful.

We enjoyed a beautiful, relaxing two-night stay at the Blue Lagoon Clinic and I would thoroughly recommend it for a brief stay before or after a flight at Keflavik Airport.

It is important to remember that the Blue Lagoon Clinic is first and foremost a clinic, not a typical hotel. Therefore you should not expect in-room slippers, toiletries and coffee. What you can expect however, is the completely unique and special experience of relaxing in a private geothermal lagoon away from the crowds of the public Blue Lagoon, which is short and scenic walk away.

The highlight of our stay was viewing the clear night sky from the private lagoon. Both the blanket of stars and the spectacular Northern Lights display contributed to what I can only describe as a perfect moment. Thanks must go the the member of staff who notified us of the lights.

Aside from the fantastic lagoon, the hotel / clinic is clean and minimalistic. Breakfast was sufficient and staff are mainly friendly and accommodating, We were however given incorrect information regarding dining arrangements and lagoon opening times upon arrival. This confusing treatment, alongside the lack of 'luxuries' (since it is advertised as a hotel) have prevented me from giving this very special place a 5/5.

Room Tip: All rooms have a veranda and view of the lava fields, but North-facing rooms will provide the best o...

The hotel was nice. It was nice to have a separate, relaxing swim area apart from the very busy Blue Lagoon.
Our concern is the lack of customer service, or just being polite. We came here on a girls trip and are nice, happy, smiling people who were out for an adventure and vacation. We checked in and were barely shown the general direction of our rooms. We were really not told anything about the property. We explored the property, and after what ultimately was some Socratic questioning with the front desk, we discovered we had daily breakfast included with our room, and access/hours to the clinics private swimming area. We asked how to get to the main Blue Lagoon and the lady at the front desk appeared to be absolutely appalled with us. We were told there was a sign with an arrow out front. The day we were checking out, a man and his two sons (who had just arrived) asked the same question, and they too received a similar answer, with a slight hand gesture.
The service consistently bordered on being rude.

It is not possible to have spa services (massages/facials ect) at the Clinic Hotel, they are only offered at the main Blue Lagoon, and done in the water on a floating mat. We didn't expect anything over the top, just polite people to tell us about the hotel.

We stayed here for one night but would happily have done another. The rooms are spacious, clean and contemporary and the floor to ceiling windows make for amazing views of the lava fields. The private pool lagoon is warmer than the main and cleverly designed - we had rooms 14/15 with views of it and could literally fall out of bed, into the lounge, changing rooms and reception. In fact, we didn't need to use the changing room but the moisturizer is amazing in there! The lifeguard was brilliant, informative, friendly and willingly took photos for us. Barbara on reception was equally lovely, arranging taxis etc. There isn't a bar or lobby as such but the small lounge area is lovely and adequate for the number of guests staying (it felt very personal, we barely saw anyone!).

The only 'criticism' is that an official shuttle is not provided between the clinic and the main lagoon - ensure your taxi takes you there else walk the gravel path dragging cases for ten mins, hopefully not in freezing gales as we had to. HOWEVER, the rest of the time, due to the weather, staff took us across in their own cars, including to the restaurant and back in the evening as walking in the evening which was excellent service all round. The LAVA restaurant was superb, not at all busy and food excellent with superb views of the lagoon. Great place to relax before our flight home!

We stayed here for 2 nights at the start of our 5 day break and it is in an excellent location only 20 mins from the airport and walking distance to the public Blue Lagoon attraction.
Rooms very clean and spacious with a minimalist decor and furnishings. Great views out to the lava fields and we were able to sit in the dark and lucky enough to watch The Aurora Borealis in the warmth!
Breakfast is continental and varied. Hotel provides snacks, coffee/tea and water all day. The private lagoon is a highlight. Open for only 4 hours on a Sunday but all day on other days. We preferred it to the public attraction down the road. Amazing rejuvenating water at around 39 Celsius. Robes and towels are provided. Staff very helpful and courteous.
Well worth the money and recommend avoiding The Lava Restaurant at the Blue Lagoon and eat at The Saulthaus, or The Northern Lights Inn. Fabulous food and reasonably priced. Head into Grindivik Harbour for lunch and local lobster soup.
The clinic doesn't feel like your ordinary hotel. In comparison the Northern lights Inn is much more familiar in that sense, but in any case, we really enjoyed our stay and would visit again.

Room Tip: All rooms excellent but those facing towards road have a better view of the Aurora

We keep returning to the clinic each year. Its an amazing place to relax, and as several other travelers point out, good value too. The building radiates a slick modern vibe and has been very well built.
