if you are a horse, the place is ok. but if you are a human being, i'd reccommend to avoid the venue. the "sleeping bag accomodation" is a large room with some 20 beds - and this you know in advance. but what you do not know is that the "beds" are two long tables with narrow and thin slabs of foam on top, one single shower, and that the place is permanently permeated by the smell of horse stool. you do not know that the kitchen is filthy (i don't care if it was some other guest's fault: i have the right to find a decent kitchen - clean the place and blame the guilty); you do not know that you are expected to have your meals in a cold dark place and in the actual presence of the same horse stools mentioned above. never again.

Overall, very nice experience, staff extremely friendly, environment so quiet and peaceful. Kids 7 and 9 made a 1 hour horse ride and they loved it. The shower in the left cottage when you face them, was not properly working, the drainage system was down, creating a pool each time we were showering. The door frame shrank with the water flood so you cant close the door anymore, apparently we were the first to mention this as this was a surprise to them. Breakfast was fantastic, but the price ... -almost 80 usd for 2 adults and 2 kids...? Guesthouses in the South are ripping off clients, sorry to say. Just spent the night yesterday in the North for 40 pct of the price and breakfast included!

Room Tip: For a family of 4 with 2 young kids, take the right cottage (opposite the reception).

Our room was over 300 Canadian and it was 100 square feet for a family of 4. The guest house had one shower for 10 rooms. There are no blinds on the windows and there is only 2 hours of darkness. We were beside the barn with the equipment. We had to drive to the main house. The place was run down.

We didn't stay at this guesthouse, but we did have the privilege of riding here. My 10 and 12 year olds have only been on horses a few times and our guide here was wonderful in teaching them all they needed to know to have a great ride. We had the sweetest horses. They equipped us with helmets. They had steps to help us get on and off the horses. The trail ride was fabulous - across meadows, through a stream (more than once) and through a little hidden lava rock valley on the property. They even fed us homemade muffins when we returned. And awesome experience!

I want to thank the owners of Hestheimar for their engagement in making our trip to an success. What made the trip so good was that they were listening to the guests what they want to do. Everything was very well organized. I appreciated the visits to the two breeding farms, Arbakki and Blesastadir, and to see the aqua-trainer at Blesastadir in action and even the swimming pool for horses. I never seen training like that. The highlight was the course we had for Sylvia Sigurbjörnsdottir, practicing on different horses (even if we were too "chicken" in the beginning). I would like to have one more training day with her, if possible. We would need another day at Hestheimar to do all things, or we will have a reason to come back...
Marteinn and Lea have a great farm with a nice location, and a wonderful view. I appreciate the good horses and especially the good food we had and all the kindness from the owners.

We strongly advise Hestheimar as a family hotel, because of the kindness of the owners, the delicious homemade food and the beautiful setting. In addition you can enjoy a horseride in the countryside with the famous Icelandic horses (5 gears ;-). A wonderful experience for both adults and kids. At Hestheimar, instead of being at a hotel, you feel as if you were a family guest.
Not to miss when you are visiting Iceland!

Room Tip: Instead of a pool, they have an outdoor hotpot that is accessible all day. Filled with natural hot t...
