The place was basically the only one open that day in Hella and looks like a countryside kind of restaurant. We ordered Hamburger and Fish&Chips, two soft drinks and one icelandic soup for 5900 ISK. It is OK if you do not have any expectation regarding the quality of the food and the place itself.

We dropped in here for a quick lunch one day.

It looks like what it is - a basic roadside bar/diner, inside and out. Although there was a menu of mostly pizzas & burgers, there was also a hostess trolley-type arrangement with stew and a pot of lamb broth. This smelled very appetising so we ordered a couple of portions of bread & soup and two hot drinks. The bar lady was most concerned about this - by some quirk it was cheaper to have the set lunch of soup, stew and a hot drink than it was to have just the soup & drink. So, never ones to turn down free food or a good deal, we agreed to have the set meal. The hostess trolley meant it was serve yourself so we figured on having just a token portion of what was proudly announced to be horse stew. The soup was nicely meaty with a few veggies - a good start. The stew came with mash and boiled veg. The veg were nothing to get excited about, but the mash was buttery and fairly smooth, whilst the stew was thick and dark and unctuous, with good-sized chunks of meat, cooked to melting tenderness in a rich gravy. This was the first time I had eaten horse and I confess to being a little dubious, but it really did taste very nice - and my good intentions to have just a small portion were quickly discarded.

The whole meal for two of us cost around £12, easily the cheapest full meal we had in Iceland. OK, so it isn't fine dining, and doesn't have much atmosphere, but it was clean, the service was friendly, the food was tasty and substantial and excellent value.

Good basic selection of foods, pizzas, burgers etc. and good size meals. Reasonably priced - about £15 for a pizza including some extra toppings. Service good and didn't have to wait long for food to arrive, although we were the only peope there....

Dont bother, walked in hoping that it would be similar to the restaurant in vik, we were very mistaken. Food was in a tiny hot plate and looked as though the patrons that were in there had trodden all over it. When we walked through the door everyone stopped speaking and were watching us, I.e old western saloon in USA or the scene in American werewolf in London.

We ate here for dinner one night whilst staying nearby and were pleased with our meals. The Icelandic Meat Soup was delicious and just what I needed after a day in the cold. We shared a pizza and the fish and chips, both were cooked well, not greasy at all, and the pizza was one of the better ones I have had in Europe. It isn't a fine dining experience but it isn't McDonald's either, it lies somewhere in the middle of the two. I am not sure about the man being grumpy, I found him to be pleasant enough and very helpful. He recommended the fish and chips which turned out to be a good meal. The service was quick. Others are correct about the atmosphere, there isn't a lot. Overall, I would eat there again quite happily.
