This hotel was such a wonderful surprise! After a great day of trekking through the amazing interior of Southern Iceland, our guide brought us to Hotel Laekur...from the first glance we knew it would be wonderful - nestled in the countryside with Helka behind and Eyjafjallajokull to the East it was a photographer's ideal rest spot for the night - We had a wonderful sunset with Icelandic horses and sheep peacefully grazing and flocks of geese and swans crossing the river. The only disappointment was the Aurora Borealis refused to come out and play!
The Staff were friendly, accomodating and treated us like old friends visiting for the weekend...the service was very personal, the rooms clean and fresh! I would stay here for a month if I could!!

Hotel Laekur was a wonderful place to start our trip around Iceland. It appalled to our taste with character, comfort, country hospitality (horses and chickens) and a modern twist. Whilst it drizzled all the time were there, we spent time in a lounge filled with great furniture and books to whet our appetite for the trip ahead and the promise of views of Hekla in the distance. The art collection is worth noting. There is a collector behind it with great taste. We also had the three course evening meal - it was delicious. Thanks Raven. You were a great host.

Room Tip: Next time I'd choose one facing the mountain or the river, although we were on the side facing t...

We spent 15 days travelling around Iceland staying in small hotels and guesthouses and this was the best by far! Every aspect of the stay was enjoyable due to the friendly and very professional hosts. We were welcomed and shown around, given the dinner menu, taken to our beautifully decorated, clean and well appointed room and offered ongoing travel advise. In a country where inconsistent standards within the hotel/guesthouse industry makes it hard to select a satisfactory place to stay, this hotel should be setting the standard and training other hosts in how to do it. We stayed here for 2 nights and it was a pleasure to come home to with delicious dinners and breakfasts. All other accommodation around the country was a disappointment after this one.

Hotel laekur was a lovely place to stay in the Hella region. It is about 11 -12 km off route 1 on an unpaved road (owners are trying to fix this) so you need to add at least 12 - 15 minutes to your traveling time to reach the hotel. However, it is well worth it. Reserve your dinner ahead of time because it is a long way back to Hella after dark if you are hungry. The three course meal we were served was quite good. The fresh lamb was delicious and each person associated with the hotel was gracious and knowledgeable. I would stay again. Surrounding area was beautiful in the morning before we left.

We had no idea what or where we were originally booking but thought it looked excellent - we were not let down. We had a little difficulty finding it but they graciously helped us as we got close. The rooms were great, the opportunity to have dinner and talk with others staying there was fun, the view of the volcano, and the Northern Lights. We could have easily stayed there longer - the breakfast the next morning was great as well. Enjoying a cup of coffee early and seeing the volcano out the back door was a fabulous way to start the day. I would recommend for those that like a non city adventure. The owners was great - and we wanted to be woken up if there were Northern Lights - it was fabulous.

Room Tip: It is not a city hotel - but that is not what we wanted. We wanted to see the country and feel like...

Wonderful stay! The owner was so pleasant and helpful in every regard. The hotel is a very new, beautifully kept place with wonderfully clean rooms. Our room (we had requested one on the upper floor) was charming with a lovely view of the surrounding fields.

Just one suggestion for getting there : Route 264 is a U-shaped road that meets route 1 (the Ring Rd.) in 2 different places. Take the western entrance rather than the eastern one because most (all but 2 km) of the road to the hotel is well-paved. From the eastern entrance much of the road is gravel.

We spent two nights here and didn't want to leave. The hotel is owned and run by the most interesting family who made us feel very welcomed. Our room was nicely decorated and comfortable. The shower was great- the well water was so soft and pleasant. We had dinner there both nights, well prepared and delicious. The breakfast buffet had a wide variety of items-all good. Although situated down a gravel road it was worth the drive to experience being in a beautiful location.
