We (2 adults and 2 children, 8 and 10 years old) spent just one night here at Hotel Laekur, on our way around Iceland. Our girls loved this place (as did we), especially the gorgeous dogs and horses that were very friendly.
The room was very nice and cozy. Since it is such a small hotel, the breakfast room is nice and small too, which means it is a very quiet place to enjoy your breakfast.
There is no pool, but there is a big tub outdoors.
We would definitely stay here again, if we return to beautiful Iceland!

Hotel Laekur was one of the nicest places we stayed during our tour around Iceland. It manages to strike a very unique balance between bucolic and elegant, with decor and dining that is both luxurious and completely unpretentious. The dinner (a set 3-course menu) was appropriate for a country inn (carrot soup, roast lamb, chocolate cake) but also skillfully and delicately prepared, well above the typical stick-to-your-ribs country fare. Breakfast was ample and we had the opportunity to fill a to-go box with items from the breakfast buffet (for a small charge) to take as a packed lunch for our hike. Our room was beautiful and comfortable with a clean aesthetic that was again more sophisticated than one would expect for an inn on a farm, and yet in tasteful harmony with the pastoral setting. The staff is lovely and warm (seems to be mostly family-run) and the horses are very sweet. The drive down the gravel road to reach the inn makes you feel like you're really driving into the middle of nowhere, but we were rewarded with peaceful, serene stay. A really lovely experience in all respects.

A beautiful quite country setting. The rooms the 2 couples had were upstairs. At 71 years of age I didn't appreciate having to haul my luggage up the stairs. The room was adequate in size and nicely appointed but the ceiling was sloped making it impossible to stand up in half the room. In fact lying in bed the ceiling was less than 2 feet from my head. I banged my head on the ceiling several times. The bath room was tiny with no space to store anything. The Wi-Fi worked well. We had dinner the first evening which consisted of a set menu of onion soup, steak, ratatouille and desert. Three of the 4 steaks were over cooked even though we specified medium and very rare. The ratatouille was luke warm. The second day no one cleaned the rooms and we had to request clean towels. We had to leave very early the second morning and were told there would be hot coffee and water available. It was available but was stone cold from the night before. The staff is friendly and helpful but needs adult supervision. The hotel manager had left for a several day fishing trip so the staff ran the operation, and not too well at that!

It's our second time in Iceland so we decided to stay somewhere different. This place was wonderful! It felt like staying in the country, but with all the big city comforts. The chef prepared dinner was out of this world (best lamb I have ever eaten) and the staff was very nice. We did not have time to do a long horse ride so they happily accommodated a shorter ride for us. I will fondly remember this place.

Lovely hotel with good restaurant. We appreciated having rooms that were facing out on the ground floor. It felt very private. The hot tub is amazing and a great place for viewing the Northern Lights although we were unlucky because of cloud cover and didn't see them at their best. Very friendly and attentive hosts.

Room Tip: All rooms are good. It is more a motel than a hotel.

We did not stay in the hotel, but took the horse tour that they offer. They were so pleasant when we arrived, offering us breakfast while we waited for the tour guide (we had arrived early). The downstairs of the hotel was beautiful! Very clean. The horse tour itself was so much fun! Raven led the tour and he was super nice. He answered all my questions not only about things I saw on the tour or about the horses, but also about Reykjavik, the food, and anything else I could think of. He made sure that we felt comfortable on the horses and only proceeded once everyone was ready. We even got to feed the horses bread at the end. I never knew their noses were so soft. Thanks to everyone at the hotel. You were all fantastic and we had a fantastic time.

Room Tip: I clicked too many ratings for the options :/ sorry

The hotel offers great views of Mount Hekla on a clear day. The owner Gunnar is very friendly and helpful. The hot tub is welcome after a day's hiking. The food is good and reasonably priced. There is even a comfortable lounge for residents. To be recommended.
