We stayed in this wonderful hotel for three nights and have very much enjoyed it. The staff made us feel very welcome and were extremely helpful. The hotel is set in a stunning location by the river Ranga, with panoramic views to the distant mountainside. The view from our room was magnificent and the atmosphere was very peaceful. Of course, the stuffed polar bear in the entrance area makes you smile. However, what really makes the difference is the wonderful staff. They managed to make us feel genuinely welcome. We were lucky enough to get wake up calls for the northern lights and see a marvellous display at minus ten degrees on a clear winter's night full of stars. To me, the staff seemed as excited as we were. The food in the restaurant is not on the cheap side, yet what we got on our plates was delicious, nicely displayed and explained to us in detail when it was served. The friendly manager offered help for tour organisation to all his guests and when we came back from driving in a horrendous snow storm, it felt like coming home when he said that he was glad to have us back. If you are fond of hottubs like I am this is THE place to be. In a bad snowstorm, the inside jacuzzi was also cosy, listening to the storm around the house.A truly memorable place I would recommend to anyone who appreciates a real treat.

Stayed here for 3 nights at the end of Feb. Nice hotel and although there wasn't much storage space the room was comfortable enough.

I wondered why there where earplugs in the bedside drawer but this became apparent when the wind got up and it started hailing...sounded like someone throwing buckets of nails against the windows!!

Staff where very friendly and the manage came round in the evening in the dining room to chat with everyone - a nice touch.

We even got to see the Northern Lights so were very happy. Would definitely recommend it :)

Stayed for three nights at the Hotel Ranga in February as part of fly drive short trip to Iceland. The hotel is just off Highway 1, beside a salmon river. The rooms are fine, not huge but big enough for two people. Our room was south facing and near one of the hot tubs – there was an outside door and a small porch outside the room, which was also handy as somewhere to chill the wine! The breakfast was good with a nice selection of cereals, fruit, cooked items, waffles etc. We ate in the hotel for the three nights we were there. The food was good, with a choice of lamb, chicken, duck, salmon, fish of the day and a vegetarian option. Main courses were about £25. The staff were very helpful and obviously well trained. The owner comes into the dining room in the evening and speaks to all the guests, giving useful tips on where to visit and what to see. We didn’t quite make it to the glacial lagoon, which is about a three and a half hour drive each way in normal conditions. The road was pretty icy when we tried it so it would have taken us longer – we turned back and went to the amazing beach at Vik and the beautiful waterfall at Skogar instead. If you want to be woken up for the Northern Lights you need to let them know every day, not just when you check in. We didn’t realise this and missed the display one evening – we think we were actually in the dining room at the time, but no one came in to let people know. Overall we had a very nice relaxing experience in a comfortable hotel, with great customer service and good food – just a shame we missed the Northern Lights!

My stay at Hotel Ranga (2 nights) was perfect. We had no problems at all, the check in process was easy and swift and although we had one of the cheaper rooms it was spacious, very cosy and the bed was huge! We also had a jacuzzi in the bathroom and one right outside our room. There are also themed rooms available such as the Africa, Australia and Arctic suites which all looked fantastic. Breakfast was excellent, a buffet of fresh bread and spreads, meats, cheese, fruits, fish, a waffle iron with maple syrup, cereals and of course sausage, hash browns, bacon, egg and beans and much more, i had 5 plates of food both mornings! Dinner in the evening is excellent, the soups were delicious and creamy, the chicken and fish were ever so tender and full of flavour and last but not least the skyr cake was fantastic. The hotel offers a wake up call service, if you tick your room number on the sheet at reception they will call you if the northern lights appear, we received 3 of these calls in one night and were very lucky to see the aurora, it was a surreal experience and one that we will never forget. I highly recommend a stay here and you must not leave without having your photo taken with the enormous polar bear in the reception!
