“Fantastic place to spot the aurora borealis”
Reviewed 25 June 2014

Fantastic place to spot the aurura borealis. The hotel offers a call anytime during the night if the aurora gets spotted into the sky. The hotel is far away from any city, so the darkness is perfect. Hotel is on the side of a small river and not far away from same of the good attractions of Iceland. From the hotel, with their help, you can book any sort of attraction. We did the daily tour to the vulcano which last had a big eruption. We went big big foot jeep and it was very good. Rooms are big, restaurant is good both for dinner and for breakfast. Price ... avarage like the rest of the country, so quite expensive.... There are 2 small jacuzzi outdoor which in the middle of the winter is an experience to do, even if it could be for sure something more fashionable. Is just a tube in the garden.

Room Tip: All the rooms has the same view, so the difference between then is just the distance from the centra...

This hotel was wonderful! Stayed two nights here at the Hotel Ranga and was very pleased. Very clean rooms and the dining was superb! Their cod is not to be missed. Front desk was helpful answering questions about near by attractions. Their hot tubs were a wonderful way to relax after a full day of sight seeing.

Room Tip: Was in a room with two children; ask about the rooms with a pull out couch.

excellent meal. Fish of the day (Ling) was cooked just right and nicely plated. The mushroom soup is tops. Do not miss it. Nice setting, overlooking river. Vaguely reminiscent of Jackson lake lodge. Warning: Backroads uses facility and very, very noisy. Killed the ambience.

If you are traveling to Iceland, I would recommend this hotel for part of your visit.

We truly enjoyed our two nights at Hotel Ranga. We used it as a base to explore the southwest of Iceland and was very satisfied with our stay. We had read the reviews from other Trip Advisor reviewers, but our visit more than exceeded our expectations, it was one of our top hotels on our month long trip. We also hooked up with Nordurflug Helicopters to pickup and drop off from the hotel saving precious sightseeing time. The room (the South American Suite) was roomy, with a nice patio and very comfortable bed. The linens were exceptional, and the unique decorating was charming without being kitschy. The hotel restaurant was very good serving some great local seafood. We had the local prawns two nights, since they were... without a doubt, the best we've ever had... period. The wine list was surprisingly good, and turns out that the hotel has a fine whisky selection as well.

Now we just want to come back for the Northern Lights...

Room Tip: We enjoyed the South American Suite, it was roomy.

We stayed here twice on our 7 day trip - once on our way east and the other on our way back. The first night we had a nice room overlooking the parking lot. It was spacious and there was a jacuzzi in the bathroom which was nice since the hot tubs were not hot enough for me. :)

We ate in the restaurant and had an excellent meal. While dining the owner of the hotel introduced himself and after learning we are from Canada, he mentioned the wood for the hotel was imported from Canada.

The hotel is very nice, but even better is the staff who are very attentive, helpful and courteous. On our second stay they upgraded us to the suite in room 0. This was a nice and totally unexpected surprise. That room is gorgeous - even though other guests of the hotel were walking up to the windows and peering inside to see what it looked like.

If I were to come back to Iceland, rather than drive to several places I would stay here and make this my base for further exploration.

Just the best hotel in Iceland in our opinion. Friendly staff, fantastic rooms and the food was good also. Best of all a superb place to view the Northern Lights - the staff call your room if the Lights appear but you do have to sign up for this. During our stay there was a complimentary talk on the lights which was very helpful..

Room Tip: The back of the property is quieter but the lights tend to appear at the front of the hotel.

We visited for 2 nights with friends. All the staff were not only friendly but very helpful too. Both the Manager and owner came across at different times to chat to us during meal times. Rooms were clean, comfortable, reasonably sized and had outside seating with access to the garden areas, hot tubs, walks, the river etc. Breakfasts were excellent with a very good choice of hot and cold foods not always found in similar hotels. Dinners were quite superb - good menu choice, very tastily cooked, reasonable quantity too. Price? Not cheap but could have been more expensive and we would not have complained. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and if we were in the area again would have no problems booking there. Not the cheapest but very very good!

Room Tip: All rooms seemed to have good view on the ground floor
