By far the worst hotel experience we have ever had. We arrived to find reception deserted and had to search the hotel to find a man vacuuming so we could check in. We were given the key to our room but no information regarding breakfast etc. On entering our room we thought the decor dated but ok and it was very clean. So far so acceptable although clearly of a lower standard than the other 4 hotels we had stayed in on our tour around Iceland. It is clearly more suited to school groups and backpackers than to tourists.
My boyfriend went downstairs to ask about dinner (available at all other hotels we had stayed in) to be met with an astounded attitude that we should expect such a thing and told brusquely that there was a restaurant down the road - no name or directions given, Same attitude when asked about breakfast but did say it was from 7 until .... I then back downstairs to find that the man had locked up the hotel and left - it was only 5pm! We were then left alone in a deserted hotel for the night with no means of contacting staff if there was a fire or other emergency. He didn't even have the courtesy to tell us he was going to leave the hotel shut up overnight. I found the experience of being left there quite scary.
In all my years of travelling (and staying in some not so nice places) I have never before felt the need to contact the travel agent and ask to be moved to another hotel but we did.And the next day were moved to a lovely hotel in Selfoss.
The owners clearly could not be bothered with us as we were the only people staying there - in which case they should not take the booking or refer us to another hotel. I would recommend you to avoid this hotel which should really be classified as a hostel
