Farm Holiday Drangshlid

Good location beneath Eyjafjallajokull. Older style outhouses with dorm style en suite rooms, warm, clean and tidy. There is the option of self catering in the common area of each house or eating in the restaurant which we did for 2 nights. Food was lovely and the service was attentive. Definitely a good base for exploring nearby skogafoss, geothermal pool and westmann islands.

The location is the big plus of Drangshlid Guesthouse. The rooms are spacious and clean. But I was missing the "soul" of that place. There were also only 2 single beds. Didn't have dinner there, there is a nice place called "Gamla Fjosid" only a few kilometers away.

Helga was a lovely host. She was warm and welcoming. As part of our organized tour, we stayed at the farm overnight and I would have loved it if we had stayed more. Dinner was incredible - salmon, potatoes and roasted veggies with a carrot and coconut cake for dessert. Yum! Breakfast had a lot of variety as well. Rooms were spacious and clean. Our room had an en-suite as I think most rooms do, but I can't verify that. Wi-fi only worked in dining area, but it was a very pleasant place to be to check email. I took pictures to post, but accidentally deleted them, but the place was very nice! I cannot speak to the value because I was on a tour and I don't know what room prices were, however, several locals did come for dinner, so I took that as a sign of delicious cooking!

During a journey in Iceland, we experimented with hotels, guesthouses, holidays Farms and B&B (price ca. 150 EUR per room). For this price, Icelandic accommodations generally have all you want (private bath and toilet, soap, towel, good bedding (twin beds), warm eiderdown, heated rooms, buffet breakfast, good welcome, …) but are often simple (few or no decoration) and small. If curtains were always present, some are too short to efficiently make the room dark. But this doesn’t bother us. This simplicity suits well with this beautiful country.
We never were disappointed, but some accommodations are best (A) or lower (C) than those of average quality (B).
This Farm Holiday accommodation is in the B category. We have nothing special to observe, all is about in the average. Lovely located on the basis of hills.

We stayed for four nights. The room was large, new and immaculately finished. Quiet location in stunning scenery. Breakfast buffet was good and we ate our evening meal in the restaurant twice, the food being excellent both times. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend this hotel.

We stayed at this place for two nights in August 2010.

Location
Situated off the main road near Skogar, about 10-15 minutes away from Vik, we felt it was a perfect location. We arrived from Skaftafell National Park before continuing on to Reykjavik. Plus, it's right under a nice bird cliff.

Service
Service at the front desk and the restaurant was OK. They were polite and all, but they did not look very excited to do their jobs and were not super welcoming.

Rooms
The room was great, very big. Decoration was simple but of good taste. However, we did not sleep very well - the beds were a bit hard. We had a private bathroom.

Food
Breakfast was excellent with lots of choice. We ate there once for dinner too and it was good and not too pricey, but there are like 7-8 things on the menu and they were out of the one that I wanted :(

Cleanliness
The room itself was very clean, but there was one thing that grossed us out a bit - when we arrived, the door was open (I guess to freshen the air a bit). But since the guesthouse is located on a farm, like a lot of other guesthouses in Iceland (don't worry - the buildings are not close to the animal buildings and it does not smell), several flies had made their way into our room. So I had to go fly-hunting to make sure it wouldn't buzz all night around my ears (thankfully I was successful).

Value
Generally, it was a good value. We liked this place very much and would recommend it.

Our group of seven had just completed a five day hike, and were delighted with our choice of Drangshlid to recover. The rooms are modern, simply styled and comfortable. The restaurant provides an excellent breakfast and dinner as well (though we arrived after eating).
The site lies in an amphitheatre of rock, whirling with seabirds, and looks out across farmland to the sea. Skogar waterfall and museum are only 4km up the road.
Proprietor Jon took us on a tour of the sights of south east Iceland, with his personal insights, leaving us in Reykjavik for our next stay, a great value trip for us (having no car).
