Had a great few days here in porsmork recently. We caught the big 4x4 bus driving through the streams across the valley. The driver even stopped by the Eyjafjallajökull volcano. We were planning on camping but the weather was a little changeable so we booked a couple of beds in the hostel which was good. Went on some great hikes and thoroughly enjoyed the amazing scenery. Would definitely return for a little longer perhaps.

Got your hiking boots on to explore the nature around Þórsmörk? Staying at the Volcano Huts will certainly elevate your experience! From dormitories to private luxury glamping huts, there is something here for every traveler.

Relaxation is possible everywhere in this little paradise surrounded by nature. Go sweating in the sauna barrel or take a bath in the vulcanic spring. Some welcome wellness after a day of hiking! Check out their website for more information on the famous and breathtaking hikes from Skogar (Fimmvörðuháls), Landmannalaugur (Laugavegur) and other shorter hikes.

After a hike from 30km from Skogar this was heaven to stop and spend the night.
Be sure to go on the Valahnukur viewpoint just a 30min hike from the huts.

Easily most memorable part of our holiday to Iceland. Exactly what you'd hope for in a mountain getaway. Enjoyed the rustic accommodations, tasty meals (especially the lamb soup!) and meeting Arty the fox and his friend. Staff was knowledgable, friendly and helpful and even let me borrow a tripod for my camera (mine had broken in transport). We fell asleep in the lodge gazing out the window to the northern lights dancing over the mountains...a sight I'll never forget. Highly recommend visiting in September-October. Think of the Volcano huts as a base camp for hiking and adventures and not a luxury hotel. You're paying for multi-day access to some of the most breathtaking scenery on earth. Birch trees line the huts and gorgeous fall colors were on full display when we visited in early October. Epic hiking. We had the trails entirely to ourselves that time of year as well. Refreshing spring water in the mountains is good to drink. Talk about Panorama...volcanoes, glaciers and valleys in every direction! A word of caution: trail map does not match actual trailhead and this almost cost us a night in the cold Icelandic wilderness...a harrowing experience to be sure and we were fortunate to get back just as darkness fell. Wouldn't be a problem in the summer I imagine but be sure to leave yourself enough daylight if you're at all uncertain. I would highly suggest a simple out-and-back hiking plan as opposed to mixing and matching trails. 4/5 due to trail difficulties otherwise we're talking five stars here people.

Room Tip: Rooms on the north side give a view of the distant mountains and perhaps Northern Lights in winter if you're fortunate.

Graham & I were in Iceland hiking the Laugevegar & The Fimmvorduhals Pass, and had a one night stopover at Langidalur. It was here we experienced the Icelandic Hospitality of our amazing friend Arnar. We were a bit scruffy, and hanging out for a good feed after having freeze dried meals on the hike. I must say, Arnar treated us like family and we were so grateful for his genuine kindness & generous spirit. You remember people like that! The atmosphere is the restaurant was uplifting, with international people all mingling happily enjoying the buffet meal (you can top up your plate guilt free). We hope one day to see you again... Thanks to Volcanic huts Staff & Management team for creating a perfect place for visitors to experience Thorsmork.

Room Tip: Just let the staff know what your needs are and they will accomodate you

After a long day of hiking the Fimmvorduhals trail from Skogar, this was heaven. The safari tents are cosy and have an electric heater for colder nights. Nice and warm beds with fresh linen and plenty of space.

The pool is hot nor deep, but provides an amazing setting, surrounded by nature. The barrel sauna is even better to rest your tired feet.

Breakfast and dinner were buffets so if you're hungry: this is value for money. They have a nice 'common chill place' with sofas and board games to relax on a rainy day.

Check (Trex) bus connections to make sure you have reserved a seat. Your own car will NOT make it across those river crossings.

Basar huts are a little closer to Skogar, and it was tempting to stay over there, but only 45 minutes further you can enjoy an amazing scenery, so for us it was worth the pain!

Room Tip: Glamping tent were comfortable and amazing
